Clutch Upgrade?

Recommended Posts

So its getting to be about time for a new clutch on my 96 Legacy Brighton. I'm excited looking at prices seeing as i just replaced my 2010 mazdaspeed 3 and parts cost me $1,100.

That being said stock clutches are cheap, and i don't plan on putting any extra power out of the motor to need a different clutch for that. I was thinking that if i am off roading and am putting the clutch through hell that the stock clutch might not hold up to that abuse. Are there any good aftermarket options for something with more bite? Is it even necessary? What clutches transfer over for this transmission?

Thanks

I plan on getting the stage 1 kit from Exedy if u want to take a look at that(Part# Exedy 15801). It come with everything you need for a clutch job for 350. On top of that, comes with a stronger pressure plate(1652 lbs vs 1213 lbs in a 2.5 oem) for more grip. I was also gonna go above and beyond and get the lighter flywheel(12.8lb vs 26lb oem) for 410 for a total of 760.

This clutch combo will be really sensitive and temperamental and is not recommended for new or inexperience stick drivers.

What sucks in my situation is the throw out bearing is making that wooshing noise. But when I put the clutch pedal in the noise goes away. My clutch is in great condition though. That's what sucks. Im going to keep driving it until it sounds like is headed in the wrong direction because I hate having to drop the trans and replace everything just because of a bad throw out bearing that these car's are known for wearing the bearing out prematurely. I saw the link on here for that sleeve that eliminates that problem. Pretty cool that someone invented a fix for this issue. http://www.smart-service.com/transmission-snout-repair-kits/28-tranquil-sleeve-kit.html
