OCDetails..I need some help with a purchase

Recommended Posts

I was hoping that you could put together a "PC 7424 starter kit" Id like to be able to purchase all the parts of the "kit" at premiumautocare.com. Im a little confused on what to order with the 7424 for pads and backing plates. I would like to also use the Wolfgang line of products. I was thinking of the 99.00 Deep Gloss Concours Kit. I also considering the Poorboys SSR line for removing swirls.

I have a OBS Sedan that is very difficult to keep clean. I live in Maine so the winter will be harsh. Id like to keep the whole purchase around 300.00..

I think I can help you there. You might want to get this order in this week though. I don't know how many people have seen this, but this weekend PremiumAutoCare is giving free UPS ground shipping to any order over $100. I think we can definitely meet that with a PC and product order.

Put the PC in your cart first. If you do that then you'll notice that at the bottom it gives you an additonal discount on the flexible backing plate. ;) You gotta shop smart when you are on PAC. Dwayne hides things like that sometimes to surprise people.

I would suggest getting the 7 1/2 inch pads. Actually, I cover pretty much what to get for your PC in the FAQ article on OCDetails.com. It covers what you want to get as far as pads go.

Definitely get some Poorboy's products if you want to remove swirls. Probably some SSR1 and SSR2 will do the trick. I've been really impressed with those products.

Don't forget to get in on that Four Star Gloss Enhancer promotion. Free microfiber with purchase. ;) You can never have too many microfibers. Speaking of microfiber, you should get a waffle wave towel for drying. You have to take my word for that. Once you dry with a waffle weave you won't ever go back to anything else. And actually, speaking of washing the car you really need to check out the Four Star Ultimate Auto Wash Shampoo. It comes with a free wash mitt that would be a great addition to your proper wash and dry tools.

Then of course there is the WG kit. Since that already has a QD in it then you could probably pass on the Four Star Gloss enhancer. Either way, that WG kit is an excellent value. So let's see here. If we put together a list like the one I attached then you would be well under $300 with your LegacyGT.com 10% discount. Plus if you buy it this weekend then you get free shipping on top of that. You can't beat that deal with a stick. :) I didn't put any Poorboy's polishes in there because I'm not sure what your needs are in that area. I did pick out a couple pads that you would definitely need if you were going to really get the most out of the PC.

OC, how many white pads would you suggest me ordering? Is there a lifespan on them? I was going to get 2 to start..

Also, my car is black and has alot of light swirls, should I get the SSR2 and SSR1 or just the SSR2? I guess Im trying to understand why I would need both if the SSR1 isnt strong enough to do the job..

Thanks again

sorry for not seeing this in time before you made the purchase. Pads last for a really long time, so no need to worry too much about them wearing out. It is always nice to have a backup handy though. I like to keep 3 of each kind of pad lying around. But that is only because I go through them faster. Sometimes I come across a really hairy vehicle that just totally destroys a pad. Anyway, what you got will do fine.

The reason for SSR2 and SSR1 is because SSR2 will cut all the swirls out but may leave some light hazing. SSR1 will remove the haze for a mirror shine. You'll know what I'm talking about when you see it. Once you get all the swirls out you can usually skip the SSR2 and just go over it with SSR1 to restore that finish.

Anyway, great purchases. I'm really jealous. Be sure to post pictures when you get it all shined up! Let me know if you have any problems getting the hang of any of your new tools or products!

If any issues arise, I'll make sure to ask you OCD... Thanks for all the help again. I cant wait to get this stuff for next weekend.

One thing, whats a good way to care for the foam pads? Can I use one for the whole job or is it better to have one for the SSR stuff and then one for the Wolfgang stuff..

Thanks again

This is what I would suggest if you want to really care for your pads. You don't want to go from polishing your car with SSR1 or SSR2 and then go to Wolfgang or something. Or worse, you don't want to try and apply a sealant with a pad you just waxed a car with. That wouldn't work at all. So you want to make sure you clean the pads out properly after you use them. That will ensure the longest life.

Thanks OCD for the tip. I ordered two white pads just to be safe. One for the SSR products and one for the WG products. Im guessing that the red pad will be used for the WG deep gloss paint sealant?

Good thing I ordered both the SSR 1 and 2. Now I completely understand why I need both.

Yup. That is exactly what you'll use the red one for. Any sealant or liquid wax will be good to use that pad for. If you were to use the white pad then you might see some hazing as a result. The softest foam possible is what works best for applying sealants. It helps spread it too. You'll be astounded at how far the Wolfgang will spread.

I cant wait to get this stuff!!! How long does PAC usually take to ship? From Florida I should see this stuff by Friday..

OCD, another question, what do you recommend for storing this stuff? I have a garage but it is unheated. Should I store everything inside during the winter months?

Thanks once again..

Unless your garage gets down to really freezing temperatures then I wouldn't worry too much about it. I keep my stuff in the garage durring the winter too and it doesn't freeze. In fact, I used to keep it all in my trunk in the winter back when I was living in an apartment and didn't really have problems with many products. You should be fine.

I talked to Dwayne today about your order and he said he'd get right on it. I think you will probably see it by the weekend. :) You gotta take pictures of the stuff when you get it. Seeing a stack of new cleaning supplies is like porn for me.

OC Details...I've followed your posts. You've never said anything negative or positive about Zaino products...What are your thoughts?

I remember reading OCD saying that he thought the Zaino products looked plasticy...Ive never used them personally..

Yeah, Zaino is kind of plasticy for my taste. It makes cars look like polished wax candles. That isn't the look that I generally go for. I like the wet paint look more than the waxy plastic look. It's all personal preference. Zaino protects great and is crazy durable. Once you have found a few products that protect and last the way you want then all it comes down to is which one you like the look of best. I haven't tried Zaino on my RBP Legacy. I'll have to give it a shot and see what it looks like.
