sirstinky
Hi all. A bit of a head-scratcher for you guys. :confused:I took the plunge and bought a Bluetooth scan tool. I got it to originally diagnose a P0420 and clear the code to see if it would come back and to check the 02 sensor function to see if the cats are bad or it's a bad sensor or something else. Well I am having some confusion as to which 02 sensors the scan tool is reading. (see the pictures). One is "02 sensor 1 wide-range voltage" and "02 volts Bank 1 sensor 2." The values for them don't make any sense. The first one reads on average 1.3-1.5 volts (it fluctuates) and has gone up to almost 2 volts (way too high). The second sensor is a little more "normal" it reads under 1 volt consistently but also bounces around. It's confusing because they seem to read higher than they should? Why is there no value for "02 volts Bank 1 Sensor 1"? I ran a graph of live data and it shows pretty much the same. Under 2000 rpm's the wide-range sensor goes all over the place rich-lean and the other sensor acts like it should for a downstream sensor, fluctuating slowly and consistently. I hooked the tool to my wife's car (Ford Escort) and the sensors seem to be in order (bank 1 sensor 1, bank 1 sensor 2). Is this a Subaru-specific deal? Anyone else seen this before? Thanks! kewshi
I have the same app and when I do a graph of my o2 sensors for my 02 legacy sedan I can only find 1 o2 sensor I think it came up b1 s2 do you have 2 that show up in torque?
allmightyfork
Is the p0420 cat code the only dtc? From the data i see the o2's seem fine. Generally when a sensor goes bad you will have codes for them.( Usually it will be a circuit code)
sirstinky
Thanks. Yes that was the only code. I cleared it 2 weeks ago and it hasn't returned. Crossing fingers. I did a graph of sensor data and they seem to be in line with a normally functioning catalyst. The only anomaly is the upstream o2 sensor that reads up to 2 volts at times. I'll keep an eye on it and is it comes back and the sensors are fine then I can condemn the cats!

Yah it's weird. I show 3 o2 sensor PIDs. One is the "equivalence ratio" and the other two are the actual sensor. I assume the o2sltv in mine is the upstream sensor and the b1s2 is the downstream (post cat). I'm not sure if it's a Torque-specific deal for Subaru's or its like that for all vehicles.
