dusterbd13
So, I had an idea while driving today. It was to use a wrx scoop, cut a hole in my hood, and build a pan underneath with ductwork to the factory airbox. Anyone done this before, and how well did it work? My major concern is rainwater being sucked into the engine.
RumbleRumble
I'm sure I've seen it some where, but those scoops on the Wrx is for the top mount intercooler. I'm sure you'll see a performance decrease with that air set up.
Subaru Legado
Gorilla Offroad Company makes such an air intake for the MAP based EJ251 in the 98-01 and 02-04 Imprezas.
allmightyfork
more air is always better. which air box are we talking about? the one with the air filter or the one on the throttle body? if you run it to the filter box i dont think water would be an issue especially if you drill a small hole in the bottom for drainage. if you run it to the one on the throttle body you will have to find a place for the mass air flow sensor to get a proper reading otherwise it will not run correctly. as for the water issue i would suggest some sort of step in the ducting to stop and collect the water and just have a drain hole before the mass air flow sensor. as far as better perfomance im not sure it would be very noticeable. not sure if that helps but good luck
