Fog light install not stock

Recommended Posts

Hey peeps, I have an 09 Legacy 2.5 Special Edition, which did not come with stock fog lights. I have purchased a stock set off a buddy who had a LGT. I wondering how I should install them being that I do not have the clips or stock wires to just plug and play.

I do know I need to get the bezels as well for them to fit correctly. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated,

Thanks.

I've never done this before, but in your shoes I'd still go for the oem install.

After looking at the installation instructions in the link below, you should need the following parts.

4 of these bolts, unless someone can tell you what size you need and then you can just get them at a hardware store. Or maybe just take one of the fogs to a hardware store and try to find a bolt that fits;

New combination switch/turn signal stalk

Relay

Right fog light cover

Left fog light cover

I'm pretty sure the wiring harnesses for each lamp should be right where the fog light goes in the bumper, prewired.

I'd probably just buy all the stuff listed above online and not mess with trying to figure out what size bolts you need.

By the way, I'm pretty sure the instructions I linked to are only for the 2008-2009 fogs, I'm not sure if the 2005-2007 fogs have a different connector or anything else like that.

^^^^^ What he said. ^^^^^

My 05 Legacy wagon is the base model, and did not come with fog lights. I ordered a set through the dealer I bought the car at for a couple hundred bucks. They used the VIN to get the paint code and the assemblies came painted to match.

The wire connectors were right there where they were supposed to be, taped out of the way.

The lights came with the correct combination stalk, a relay, and instructions in pictographic Jinglish.

Easy, squeeze.

No pain.

No stain.

I think all car manufacturers build harnesses for all the options, since it is cheaper to produce a single part rather than 4 or 5 different ones. So if a car didn't come with heated mirrors or seats at a given options package for example, those parts a not assembled during the build, and the connectors are simply not used.

APexi, Thanks for all the links and the info. When I had my bumper off before I do not remember seeing any unused clips or wires for fogs but maybe I just want looking for them. I was thinking of just running my own switch instead of the stalk but then again that way would be more legit especially for resale of the vehicle. I will keep you guys posted when I get to doing the install.

Aslo, I have found the bezels online fore like $50 for the pair. The one link say the cover is only like $16.00? Not sure if I am looking at the right part or not
