Winter Tire Conundrum

Recommended Posts

So I have a great opportunity to swap out my stock wheels with rota T5 18x8.5 wheels. The only issue is I have brand new winter tires at 225/40/18.

From what I know and can find, 225 is a minimal stretch for tires and perfectly stable, 235 is recommended.

What kind of issues could I run into with snow tires vs summers?

Id like to hear from people who have had experience with this type of setup, if possible.

Fair enough. There are better wheels out there to be had than Rotas for still reasonable money. Especially if you get 'em used. New wheels are for suckers. ;) Used is where it's at. My used Prodrive P1s need refinishing now, but I've gotten 3 solid years out of them (so far) and they'll keep going strong after I get 'em refinished. All for less than half of what a set would have been new. That said, I've been eyeing a new set of wheels for my Ford Flex for a little over a year now. I just can't bring myself to pull the trigger. But I really, really want them.

I've actually never had it done. I'll probably be in the market next winter to do the same, but I'm gonna try to get one more summer out of my tires, so I'll wait til those are junk. I'm pretty sure BigTDogg has had it done somewhere locally and I think he is pleased with his result. If he doesn't post in this thread, you can pm him. Also, sigmafour has a nice long thread from a few years ago about a place to definitely avoid. Check that thread here: http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/massachusetts-boston-north-shore-wheel-repair-misery-189080.html?t=189080

I believe there might be some local recommendations toward the end of that thread, but you might have to go through it a bit to find 'em. Let us know if you find a good spot. Good luck!

Awesome! Thanks for the share, I had to read through the whole thing to see if the pink bandit left any more messages but I will definitely not be heading to Wheel repair specialist in peabody. RimPro might be my best choice and they're real close to my job!
