So my wife and I will be leaving socal Friday and need to be back for work Thursday. Neither of us have driven any further north than Monterrey, so we will for sure be stopping in San Fran for at least a day or 2. I ve got a freind in Grants pass OR Im considering swinging by for a beer. Anything else besides that I should put on the list?

Id consider Portland, Seattle, etc but not sure about how much time that will take. Were basically going on our last outting as a couple since we have a baby coming in january and not sure how our futue wandering road trips will be affected.

Also this will be the first road trip in the LGT and Im looking very forward to that!

So give me some ideas!

If you're in Portland, you could consider visiting Multnomah Falls. There's a very scenic winding road on the way to there, and it actually passes two other more minor falls that you can stop and check out. There's also the Vista House on the way there that overlooks I-84 and the Columbia River.

On the way to the falls, you could pop in to McMenamins Edgefield (in Troutdale, OR) for a solid burger and the best tater-tots you've ever had (get them Cajun), plus a great selection of locally brewed beers.

Go see Mt. St. Helens

And Mt. Hood(from Trillium Lake)

Both have trails around to hike but you don't need to walk them to get good views. Can see these right from parking lots/centers right by. So easy for the pregnant wife. And the winding drives up to these places are a lot of fun.

And/Or head out to the coast and see Cannon Beach and get your Goonies on. Haystack rock at low tide is interesting with all the tide pools full of anemones and such.

Just moved here a couple months ago and it's like living in a damn Bob Ross painting.

Definitely check out Portland's weirdness too. Including standing in a long line for some Voodoo donuts right by several strip clubs(highest per capita in the nation or some such). But the natural beauty out here is what I'd focus on.

Though they don't take kindly to Californians up here. Too many moving in and raising housing prices.
