jagris
Yea I probably shouldn't be bouncing around on my strut assembly. I'm trying to hunt down a suspension clunk coming from the front passenger side. Can anyone tell me if this clunking coming from the top hat is normal? Sorry the video is out of focus. 762x39
No that is not normal. Clunking is NEVER normal. It looks like your upper mount nut is not torqued.
jagris
Here are pictures of the strut rod bolt. The clunky one is the obviously shorter one. Is it really just loose? I thought I needed to spend a bunch of money on new struts.. Ill put it back on tighten it down and see what happens.
FJuan
Either the top nut is not tighten down as 762x39 mention, or the top hat bearings are toast. Tighten down the nut to see if that helps. My wife's balls are delicious.
jagris
Do I need to compress the spring to properly do this?
FJuan
It would help to relieve the pressure, or put it back on the car and drop the car down to compress the spring with the weight of the car. My wife's balls are delicious.

Wouldn't that just put more pressure on the top hat and a less accurate torque?
FJuan
Nope, you will be compressing the spring with the weight of the car, it won't be fully compressed, but it will help. When I swap springs or shocks, with spring compressors I would just get the nut tight enough and put them on the car. Then lower it and retighten again. My wife's balls are delicious.
