Parrot Asteroid Smart Install - 2010 LGT - Help please!

Because Racecar

Recommended Posts

Ok, so I've installed somewhere in the order of 40 stereos in my life. I've had some hiccups along the way, but never such a flat out failure to produce any results.

I have a 2010 Legacy GT with the HK system. I bought a metra wiring kit, which had all the right wires to come off the PAS. I solder the two harnesses up, plug it all in, a BAM! No sound. I've tried both with the stock stereo harness in line and direct to the car harness. I've wired the remote turn on both to the PAS remote line and directly into the acc +12v. I've tried contacting SVXdc, but have had no response on getting a "real" harness. The PAS powers on just fine, but I have no sound. The wires don't seem quite right in the car, though. I've looked at the table at ae64.com, but the colors don't match up. It seems a little reversed. Some pictures:

In the pictures, I have "top" labelled as what would be the bottom of the ae64.com layout from here:

Anyone have any ideas? I'm a bit lost on this one.

Your first pair of pictures ("car harness" top and bottom) are your Legacy's "native" radio power/speaker harness.

Your 2nd pair of pictures ("Stereo Harness" top and bottom) are from Subaru's Media Hub accessory (which added the USB socket to your armrest center console, since your OEM HU did not have USB capability built-in). That harness is a T -- it simply taps power and ground to send to the Media Hub module. And yes, the factory that Subaru sub-contracted to build this T-harness used whacky colors. That is also the case on Subaru's harnesses for their other accessories (subwoofer, BlueConnect, etc.).

The yellow and black leads on your Metra harness are in the correct slots.

My pin-out table you found lists the factory wire colors only for certain Impreza and Forester models. I really need to make a new table for Legacy/Outback (but if you're really curious, you can search and find Subaru's wiring diagrams available out there).

ADDED: You have incorrectly identified the 20-pin radio harness connectors (and you've labeled your pictures) backwards. For example, your second picture (which shows the side of the plug with the thumb latch, and which you captioned "Car harness bottom") is definitely the top of that plug. The problem is that that row of sockets on the rear of the radio are all upside down when you orient the radio right side up. Ditto for your pictures of the Media Hub kit's T-harness and the Metra aftermarket harness.
