OhNineGT
Had my EJ25 rebuilt as well as put a new clutch/flywheel in it. Mechanic told me to swing by to listen to a "Ticking noise" that is happening upon startup. I found that the noise was quite a bit louder than a tick, it sounds more like a knock to me. I first thought that it was in the heads. I got a mechanical stethoscope and checked the heads. Everything seems smooth and normal. I checked the bell housing, however and found that it seems to be coming from there. Any guesses as to what it could be?
whitetiger
how was your block rebuilt? what was replaced and what was re-used?
OhNineGT
It was just a top end rebuild. Head gaskets, new valves, new valve guides, warped heads repaired (Not sure how much was taken off), valve seals, and all gaskets needed for a valve/head job. AND the clutch/flywheel was done. The knock is extremely loud in the bell housing.

rmoore5
#4 rod knock? I hope not. It is the closest rod to the bellhousing. Maybe you can snake a borescope in thru the inspection hole and check that all is good inside the bellhousing.
