subarunewb
Yesterday, my check engine light came on, and I checked it with a code reader. The code I got was P0325 I googled this code and I guess this means I need to replace the knock sensor? What causes this to make the check engine light come on? What are the common causes or problems that would lead to setting off the knock sensor? I need some help on this issuse! If anyone is wondering how many miles is on my Subaru , mileage currently reads 191,109. O'Riley's ordered the part for me, should be here today about 3pm. By the way, its a 1995 Subaru Legacy L
cal71919
Mine throws that code after a car wash or when it rains. Doesn't seem to affect drive ability which is why I've put off replacing it for so long.
johnegg
What causes this to make the check engine light come on?usually they get cracks in them. when you remove it you can see them. the code means it is not working correctly. symptoms include, bad fuel economy lack of power, especially up hill generally sluggish pay attention to the orientation when you remove the old one, if you point it in the wrong direction you can bust it on install. do not over tighten it, you can bust it on install. monkeyposeur
IIrc the torque spec on the knock sensor bolt is only 16 ft lbs. Ebay knock sensors are about $15 shipped and work great, FYI.

The check engine light went away. I was told by the Subaru dealership, that I may have gotten a bad batch of gas. I usually run Shell Mid-grade gas in my Subaru, but I used Kroger Mid-grade gas and I'm thinking this caused the Check Engine light to go off. But I can definitely see the difference in gas mileage when i use Shell gas. I just wish I knew other ways to improve the gas mileage in my car, I feel like I'm not getting good gas mileage. Usually when I've gone 120 miles, the gas handle will be on a 1/2 tank. I was also told by the Subaru dealership, to check the throttle body, spark plugs and wires. But the spark plugs and wires are good. Just replaced them back in March.

Usually when I've gone 120 miles, the gas handle will be on a 1/2 tank. you cannot judge gas mileage by the gauge. you have to do the math, miles driven since last fill up divided by gallons pumped to fill. the gauges get old and hit E way before empty, usually around 12 gallons used. the tank holds 15. 9 gallons, or 60 liters. how many gallons do you pump when you fill up? The check engine light hasn't came on agian for this problem. But, yes, i do have lack of power going up hill, its like i have to hold down the damn gas pedal for the car to go faster. So you think i should go ahead and replace the knock sensor?
johnegg
assuming it isn't new, yes replace the knock sensor. they cost $15 shipped, on ebay, from china. some are shipped from the US. but either way i got mine in less than a week. the sensors get old and fail to work properly, but sometimes they do not throw a code until later. replace it.
