Bad pressure plate?

Hey all,

Got a '00 Legacy Wagon 5mt. Every now and then if I go to shift, clutch pressed all the way of course, it will grind slightly. Usually going into 4th, 5th, or reverse. Mostly going into 5th/reverse. If I'm downshifting, some times, and I go to rev match (with the clutch in all the way, and "blip" the throttle as I'm shifting) it will rev up very slow, almost as if the clutch disk wasn't fully disengaging from the flywheel. 95% of the time it shifts smoothly and fine, that's why I have ruled out the slave.

The kid I bought it from did learn to drive manual with the car so I'm thinking he did a lot of riding the clutch or braking with the clutch pressed in as well (or both) ending in a fairly worn out pressure plate.

Maybe the snout is galled up causing the throw-out bearing to get caught up every now and then? Which is more likely?

Thanks
