cam/crank sensors interchangeable?

Recommended Posts

So heres the thing... i ordered a knock sensor in the mail a few months back and they sent me either a cam or crank sensor. So i drove to the parts store cause i needed a knock sensor (Whatever goes kinda behind and under the intake) i replaced it.

I been fighting with a fuel issue or something where i keep getting a misfire on cyl 4. Ive heard it may be a cam sensor. I got this new sensor layin around and i figure why not replace? My engine aint throwinn a sensor code, just a misfire.

So i guess my question is... Are cam/crank sensors interchangeable?

1/ the sensors maybe interchangeable,

but i would have to study the part numbers to know for sure.

2/ what is your car doing? what ''fuel issue''??

3/ the MOST common cause of a misfire is bad plug wires.

second most common, bad plug.

these 2 cause more mis-fires than all other causes combined.

4/ contact the ''seller'' and they will send you a FREE knock sensor.

i doubt that is the cause of your problem.

5/ ps: p0325 is usually the code for a bad knock sensor. i'll have to look up p0328.

.

i needed a knock sensor (Whatever goes kinda behind and under the intake)
.

6/ no offense, but if this is the limit of your knowledge, you may not be correct.

you may absolutely right, but you may not be.

either way, a new knock sensor will not hurt,

if you install it correctly.

7/ you are way better off starting from the beginning,

telling us what is going on,

what car, year, engine, trans, miles,

and what you have done so far.

we may be able to help.

but you are really undervaluing the knowledge base on this site if you just ask,

''are these sensors interchangeable?''

so let us help you.

what is going on.?

they dont interchange. They got a little nipple preventing improper install.

In regards to the knock sensor or whatever its called... i merely forgot what it was called. It was round, looked like a heated hemorrhoid pad that had a giant unnatural crack in it, and it used a 12 mm chrome socket thingy that said SNAP-ON ;)

My issue is i got a 5 speed 95 wagon

imagine climbing to high gear on the freeway. Shift points/throttle ammount doesnt matter. by the time you reach 5th gear, the repettative load on the pedal causes the number 4 injector to quit. new plugs, new wires. Ive swapped the injectors front to back to rule out a stickey one. The problem seems to be there isnt a grounding signal happening. cause my test light stays on. Would this be a pcm?

ngk plugs... i dunno the brand of wires. not the bottom shelf, but not the top either. lets move past the spark... what triggers the #4 injector? what are the things that trigger it. its not a spark issue.

how would i check the pcm?

cam = fuel

crank = spark

the only test i know of for the ecu is to replace it.

or go to the dealer.

they do not fail often so they are pretty cheap.

but since they do not fail often i would look elsewhere first.

but you can find one here:

www.car-part.com

sort by zip code to see what is close,

then by price to see what is cheap even with the shipping.

i think they are listed under '' computer''.

you'll need your build date,

look on the b pillar of the drivers door,

there should be a sticker.

i swapped the crank sensor and i couldnt get it up to highway speeds due to traffic. so far it seems like it still might go wonky. Ordered a cam sensor last night, just so all engine sensors are new. the only thing left would be tps. Planning on hitting a junkyard sometime this weekend and pulling the parts. I want my car runnin rad, not sad.
