DJBRANDER Posted March 24, 2015 Posted March 24, 2015 so in my 98 2.2 Manual this morning on my way to work, my speedo decided to quit. I was doing some research and apparently it can either fail in the cluster, or the sensor has broken. I guess the sensor is on the bell housing on the driver side. I guess its not a cable driven system since I've had the cluster out before to wire in my tach. So here's the weird thing, it wont let me go past 1/2 way in the revv's now. Is this because of the speed sensor? I also cannot find the speed sensor anywhere online; is it called something else? Any input would be greatly appreciated.
johnegg Posted March 24, 2015 Posted March 24, 2015 i have no experience with the manual trans. but the auto trans speed sensor is on the passenger side. i think the part you need is listed in the link and pic, #7. if you click on the part number, and then click on the ''usage info'' to see what cars use it. iwould go used if you can, since you are not sure of the cause. http://opposedforces.com/parts/legacy/us_b11/type_24/electronic/electrical_parts_body/illustration_1/ item #7 http://static.opposedforces.com/epc_img/366494983501.png
DJBRANDER Posted March 25, 2015 Author Posted March 25, 2015 Thanks! I ordered the part, unfortunately I wont receive it till friday because it's special order. So after the speed sensor fails, the car puts itself in limp mode. On my way home from work the car would randomly shut off at stop lights. So I ran the codes and I was getting: P0440 - dreaded EVAP leak P0500 - The speed sensor code P1540 - Low idle (due to limp mode) P1507 - Idle control valve (after doing research when the car stalls it throws this code) Hopefully the speed sensor will repair these issues.
