Any good audio options for a 06 legacy

I miss the in dash 6-disc changer in my 05 impreza. Are they any good stock or aftermarket cd changers for the legacy. That sound great and are resonably priced. With the impreza you could grt almost any double din type cd system, the legacy on the other hand has the unit built in with everything else.

The six disc in dash CD changer is already a factory option. I've got one in my 05, so I'm sure it is there for the 06.

I wouldnt mind getting the stock one, but i know subaru would charge an arm and a leg(for the unit and installation), i also need some mp3 capibility.

Not sure I am understanding what you are saying...? but do you NOT have a system in the car? Or are you looking to change the 6 CD changer? Do you have an LGT? or a 2.5i with a single CD player? It's late, and I dunno...but the cars come with a stereo/cd changer...on the GT...and a single CD player on the 'i' models.

Well, short of going back to the dealership to get the 6 disc changer, you are pretty screwed. Your other options are just as expensive as going to the dealership. Was the 6 disc changer not an option on the 2.5i?

The changer is only available on the 2.5i Limited.

If you have an 05 then you are out of luck. I've heard there may be an AUX input on the 06, but not CD changer controls. Your easiest and cheapest option is an FM modulator and a trunk mounted CD Changer. The Legacy isn't the car you should get if stereos are what you are into. Other than speakers you are pretty much stuck with what you get unless you know more about wiring than I do.

I wouldnt mind get a fm modulated changer with mp3 playback. I want something that sounds great. How good is the sound from fm modulated systems.
I'm not sure if the HVAC controls are compatible, but you could also try replacing the head unit with the 6cd mp3 version from an H6 3.0. I recently got prices for the 6cd radios from junk yards & you're looking at somewhere between $275 & $350 depending on who you talk to...

Besides that, wireless FM modulators suck...they seem to do especially poor with the window antenna on the '05's for some reason. If you hard wire it (by tapping into the antenna lead on the OEM radio) you will get a fairly clean signal, ie, no interference, but the sound quality is still not terrific...bearable, but that's it.

There are a couple radio hacks floating around on the forums too that involve taking apart your OEM radio to get a clean aux-in line, but it sounds like it's probably more electronic farting around than you want to deal with.

Except for big money / dramatic overhaul of the stereo system, thems pretty much your options as I see it.

I hope the HVAC controls do work, id probally get the mp3 one if i could get it cheap anuff or a deal on it.
If you do go this route and find a good deal, let us all know how it works out. There's quite a bit of unknowns regarding how the different HVAC systems work & their (un)compatibility. If you do get a good deal from a junkyard or something, but find out it doesn't work, come back and update us, cuz I might be interested in taking it off your hands anyway.

I called findpart.com and the guy offered me the mp3 version for $275 + $15 S&H...just for comparison. If you end up using them, don't tell him it's an mp3 version though (/snicker) just that you want the 6CD for the 3.0L Outback.

Maybe i should ask a subaru tech, or try to find some more info..... What hack?
A subaru tech would be clueless. Just peruse the Interior/audio forum for two threads named "XXX Plug & Play Aux-in XXX". There are two options with different features/benefits/costs. I feel obliged not to say more. See for yourself.
