GottSnowbaru
Hey, I want to install gas Struts on my 4th Gen Legacy sedan trunk. I have searched online and haven't found any made specifically for my car. Has anyone done this before.
starionesir
Why do you want gas struts on the trunk? You have trunk springs.
GottSnowbaru
I removed the trunk springs to make space for my subwoofer. Yes, I know it probably wasn't the best idea but now I can't replace them in my own. So I wanted to see if I could replace them with gas Struts. ras06LGT
Since we have trunk springs you probably won't find a vehicle-specific kit. You can buy universally sized ones and fab up some mount points, but I'm not sure how well that would work given the arc the trunk lid swings through in relation to the body. starionesir
You can make anything work with enough time, money and fabricating skills. Now if its practical to do is another thing. You say you had to remove the springs because of a sub. I'm assuming you put the sub in rear deck which hang too low and interfere with the springs? You can't bend the springs to accommodate the sub or run a different more shallow sub? And in the grand scheme are you really in and out of the trunk enough to need something to help you open and close it? I honestly probably open my trunk once every couple of months but have another vehicle I do grocery shopping in.
