yj4000
Hi All, I have a 98 Legacy Outback Wagon. Swapped out 2.5 for a 2.2. Got the ECM w/ 2.2. It wouldn't start until I put the original 2.5 ECM back in and it runs great. So far the only problem is an EGR code because the 2.2 has no EGR. I'll worry about that later. Any thoughts on the ECM no start issue? Thanks in advance, Ryan
johnegg
Any thoughts on the ECM no start issue? the ECM needs to match the wiring in the car. if it does not the computer will not talk to the engine. you do NOT need to swap the ECU when doing the ej25 to ej22 swap. there is a work around for the EGR code , but you will need an EGR intake manifold, and do the work around. the car will run fine with the EGR code as is, but it may not pass inspection, and it will be harder to sell. a little research could have prevented this. yj4000
Thanks for the info. I seem to do things Bass Ackwards and do the research after the fact. I bought the car with no motor but it came with the intake, starter, alt, wire harness ect. I found the 2.2 with ecu and correct single port "Y" pipe put in in and here I am. I will now search for the egr work around. Thanks again, Ryan
