Fog Light Issue

Recommended Posts

I bought my 2006 Legacy GT Limited on Friday and discovered that my fogs don't work at all. When I have the low beams on and I flip the fog light switch they don't come on and there is no indicator that they are on (if there even is one?) I replaced one bulb and still nothing, tested with a multimeter at the plug up front and got no reading (could be used error, I'm not too good with electrical), and of course I checked the fuse. Not sure what else to do, any ideas?

In the 2005 the fog light indicator is on the far left side of the dash. I would imagine it's the same for you.

If you've checked the fuse, perhaps check the relay (it's the bottom-left-most relay right next to the fuses in the cabin fuse box).

This might be a long shot but I had this issue with my LGT and it turned out that they were unplugged. Probably from removing the front bumper cover at some point. Climb underneath and look under the fog lights, you should be able to see a white plug. I can get a pic if you need.

I pulled the bottom of my dash to get to the relays only to discover the aftermarket car starter is wired into that relay. So what they did was wire the relay in remotely to fit all of the wires for the starter in. Upon closer inspection I noticed a broken wire that is supposed to run to the relay. I fixed the wire, replaced the fuse I blew in the process and voila! Fog lights! I also noticed during my testing that I have no DRLs. Is this car supposed to have them? I also noticed that when the headlights are off, my fogs will stay on as long as the switch is on. Is that a factory function?

Sounds like a cluster.

Yes you should have DRLs.

No your fog lights shouldn't stay on without low beams from the factory.

Not necessarily. Both of these things are common mods. See these threads:

It's likely that someone did both of these things to your car.

Very true and likely what happened. I just assumed he was asking about factory/OEM spec operation.
