LegacyCamper
I cant find the guide on here for the rear bumper removal, could someone please show me the thread? 96 Wagon 250t Got a nice dent in the plastic now so plan to heat it up and push it out. Thanks
monkeyposeur
Pretty straightforward to remove. A bunch of screws that hold the skin on, lol. Check the stickies for the fsm. It has a diagram of all the components. If you have trouble finding the link let me know. It's easiest to use the access holes and remove the entire assembly, bumper beam and all. LegacyCamper
yeah i did do a sticky look through but couldnt find it, so much info in there it gets hard without meta data etc. could you point me to it? Im sure i could figure it out with a diagram. silly question whats a bumper beam?
monkeyposeur
The bumper beam is the metal support that bolts to the frame and holds then plastic skin that you see on the outside. Here is a diagram from opposedforces.com:http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn41/henry616/Mobile%20Uploads/D417E4D4-8724-4A64-8114-866D9444889E_zpstef1eqbp.png Hope this helps. LegacyCamper
i found the diagram under the stickies. dont want to be snapping any clips. do I really need a torque wrench for this job? Dont have one. eeeek
monkeyposeur
No, no torque wrench needed, just snug up the four big bolts that hold the beam to the unibody. You will snap some clips but don't worry you can break a bunch and still hold the outer covering. And they are only a buck or two each from the dealer so don't sweat it. The hardest part are the side bolts (number 12/14 & 16 in the diagram I posted). They are a bit tricky to get at and strip but won't hurt anything if you mess them up. LegacyCamper
thanks for that. whats the benefit of taking the whole bumper beam off?
monkeyposeur
My bad! You don't need to take the whole bumper and be off if you are just repairing the covering. I had to take the whole assembly off my wagon when I pulled the frame straight after a collision. Sorry about that! I must be too excited about the wrx with a blown motor I just bought and can't concentrate, ha ha.
LegacyCamper
the problem im finding is where all the bolts and clips are located. i presume some were in the boot under the plastic? the ones under are obvious. i thought i saw an online service manual 6 months back but cant find it now.
