94 2.2 very hard to start

Recommended Posts

my car has been getting harder and harder to start, as its gotten colder.

my fans come on after just turning the key forward. They come on for about 2 seconds, shut off for 2 seconds, come back on and just keep doing it. The fuel pump also turns on and off with them.

When it finally starts, it runs rough, and bogs down when i hit the gas. Once it starts to get warm, it runs just fine.

I tested the cts, based on the diagram I had, it tested fine.

I'm not sure where to go from here.

first check under the dash,

are the Green Test connectors plugged in to each other?

if yes, dis-connect them.

check the timing.

this is the most common cause of no start issues.

Well it went back to hard starting.

Someone has installed a switch, to turn the fans on all the time. At first it worked fine. One position, the fans came on when they needed. The other position, they stay on. After I un hooked the green connectors, the switch worked again. But now it does nothing, and fans stay on all the time. It looks like it's tied into the cts.

Any thoughts?

i just read one of these on another forum.

look to see if the ects, temp sensor, (the 2 wire one) is plugged in, his was not.

it is located on the cross over pipe under the intake manifold on the drivers side.

either #1 or #4 in pic, the 2 wire unit.

also look for bad wiring.
