wastinglight
Hi everyone, I'm looking at picking up a 1999 Outback limited. Haven't looked at it in person yet, so i don't know which engine its got in it(2.2 vs 2.5) Its loaded, very clean and a 5 speed. I know that Subarus are fairly reliable, however doing some looking online I've found there seems to be issues with head gaskets. The ad says that the head gaskets and water pump were replaced recently, but no receipts. The ad also says that it leaks/burns oil, couldn't that be a sign of a bad head gasket? So I'm wondering if there is some way to check if they were indeed changed? Otherwise are there any other things i should look out for? Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated
Arment76
I would definitely ask which specific head gaskets were used and who installed them. You might be able to gather a little info by crawling under the car and taking a look at where the head meets the block. Does that area look clean? Any leaks?
