New to after-market audio systems - no bass?

I recently bought a 2008 LGT with an aftermarket stereo and head-unit system installed.

It includes 4 speakers, Pioneer head-unit (double din), and amp. It is supposedly hooked up to the stock sub under the driver's seat but so far no matter what song I play (iPod, CD, radio, etc.), bass is almost non-existent unless I crank it up to really high volumes. Is this just because it's properly replicating the audio source as opposed to stock speakers which tend to overemphasize bass? Or does it sound like something isn't hooked up properly?

Note that I can crank the volume up pretty high without much distortion so I would think it's all wired up correctly?

Svx- do the cars with the factory subs have a cross over that routes all the bass to the sub?

Not with the older under-seat subs. Full range goes from the HU to all of the main speakers. See info about under-seat sub and tweeters in this thread I compiled on the NASIOC Forums:
