SoSubiZ
My 97 legacy L 5speed MT is stuck in gear. Im pretty sure its 3rd. Is there a common problem/fix procedure for this? Ive investigated around the shifter itself and unbolted the link between them. still no play. I have a good feeling im going to have to tear into it or buy another. Any suggestions? SoSubiZ
Also I have found a 92 legacy tranny near me. Will it work? What are my tranny options?
johnegg
Also I have found a 92 legacy tranny near me. Will it work? What are my tranny options? the 93 legacy manual trans (w/o turbo) will not work. you can use any manual trans from a 91 - 94 TURBO car. but these are going to be RARE, and probably expensive. or a MT from an ej22 Legacy L, brighton, or LS, 95 - 99 or a MT from an Impreza ej22 car 95 - 99, or a MT from an Impreza ej18 car 93 - 97. you can not use a manual trans from any ej25 car, outback, GT, LSi, Forester, or WRX. good luck. SoSubiZ
any difference between these options? strength ratios? i know there is a gen1 turbo at a scrap yard near me.
johnegg
you need a 3.9 final drive ratio. the ones listed above all have that. the ones you can not use have a 4.11 ratio. other than that the trans are all the same. my only advice would be fewer miles is probably better. from a wreck is is probably better, it was driving . if ti looks like some kid ''mod-ed'' it, different intake, different exhaust, boom boom speakers, i might look at another one. if the gear oil has metal flakes i would pass. monkeyposeur
If you use the 1st gen turbo tranny you will also need the pedal assembly as well as the clutch cylinder and slave since it is a hydraulic clutch and a pull type. And you would need the rear diff as well unless it matches your diff you already have. They are supposedly pretty strong transmissions. Something you might want to consider is yanking the motor out of that 1st gen turbo leggy at the junkyard!
