Seems_LGT
Hello all, I recently purchased an 06 legacy gt and ive noticed some strange quirks in the steering Sometimes at low speeds the wheel will become heavy almost like I have no ps and then will become light again. The fluid is good, the belt tension is good, the pump doesn't whine or squeak at full lock Does this sound like a pump issue or does anyone else have this issue? Ive done a search but I cant seem to find anything related to this
ras06LGT
There could be some air in the system. It should self-bleed, but some figure 8's in a parking lot could help speed that along. Make sure the keep the fluid topped up while doing this (if there is indeed air in the system).
FJuan
To test for air or a leak in the system, place the front end on jacks so the front wheels are off the ground. Start the car, have a buddy slowly move the steering wheel to one side to lock, the slowly back the other way till lock. Watch the reservoir for any bubbles coming from the return line, if the bubbles don't stop after several lock to locks, then you have a leak in the system. Common leak areas...... hose clamp under the reservoir and O-ring on the intake tube at the P/S pump. My wife's balls are delicious.
compsurge
If you are at full lock, this behavior is normal. To bleed it, just go lock to lock a few times and it will sort itself out.
