mrckasz
2008 Subaru Legacy 2.5i Automatic/4spd @ 84,000 miles. Youtube Link - http://youtu.be/l3DVXvjLcE4 Grinding noise at deceleration at exactly 4 and 5 seconds. -The grinding/rattling noise happens when you let off the accelerator above 3,000 rpm. -Also happens at cold startup for about a minute and then stops. -I checked all the exhaust pipes and nothing evident to me is making the noise. Noise comes from the front of the car under the engine bay. -I cannot figure out what it is. Please let me know if you have any idea of what the noise can be. Thank you in advance. Dispatch20
Cat converter heat shields, I believe. Basically every Subaru does this, including both of mine. I removed the rattling shields entirely on one car and put large hose clamps to tighten the shield on my other car. There is a ton of info on this subject on this forum. If you have somebody rev the motor while you are under it you can feel out the source of the vibration while it's rattling. 05pearl
Get rid of the aftermarket shifter bushings if you have them.
Wheelbuilder_25
Check the heat shield on the 2nd cat. That one is prone to being noisy, but it can be any of them. Hose clamp it and call it done.
