Recall??

Recommended Posts

Yup, I posted here:

There was a similar recall last year for brake line corrosion. Most members (myself included) did not need any major work done. If there isn't already corrosion, the dealer just puts a rust prevention coating on the questionable spots. Takes about an hour. If there is corrosion, they replace hardware.

This new recall is in addition to last year's recall.

It sounds like all of the vehicles have the issue, but it only becomes a problem if you are in a place that uses salt on the roads. If I had one of the cars in the group defined in the notice, I'd do whatever they were doing to the northern vehicles to my car... this is sort of like the fuel like leaks they had in the 02-03/4 Impreza - they all had the problem parts, but the issue only showed up under certain weather conditions.

Apparently they replace hardware only if leaking:

Subaru doesn't know when the recall will begin. Dealers will check the Legacy, Outback, Impreza and Forester for any brake fluid leaks. Rustproofing and anti-corrosion wax will be applied if no brake fluid is leaking.

If brake fluid is leaking, the lines will be replaced and then rustproofing and anti-corrosion wax will be applied.

Subaru emphasizes all vehicles fixed during the 2013 recall will need to be repaired again. Owners can contact Subaru at 800-782-2783 and refer to recall number WQK-47.
