GTEASER
May 2013 Auxiliary Fuse Panel Install I installed an auxiliary fuse panel (Bussmann ATC-6) in the drivers footwell, mounted to a piece of angle aluminum and attached it to an unused threaded fitting on the chassis just left and slightly above the dead pedal. I used a fuse tap (Bussmann ATM Fuse Tap BP-HHH-RP) to pull power from the interior fuse panel to power the auxiliary panel. I used a 10A fuse at the tap for the new circuit (panel) and individual 1A fuses will be used for each of my gauges so that they are fused separately per the manufacturers recommendations. I used 18 gauge wire for power and ground to the fuse panel. The ground wire is attached to the dashboard frame as seen in the pics. The advantage of the auxiliary fuse panel is that it is expandable (can get a Bussmann ATC-8 also for more expansion) and I do not have to tap into any of the stock wires for power or ground. I can add gauges and other items such as dash cams or radar detectors that need power, easily, and as I wish. This is the hardware I used, along with heat shrink tubing, various ring connectors, crimp connectors and wire. This is the install. Stack Pro-Control Boost Gauge Install (ST3512) I installed the MAP sensor for the boost gauge in the engine compartment on a custom made mounting bracket fashioned out of a piece of angle aluminum. I also used rubber grommets and hardware to isolate the sensor from engine and chassis vibration. Probably overkill, but it was fun fabricating the piece and the result looks pretty fancy in the engine compartment. Next I made a custom mount on the left side of the gauge cluster surround bezel for mounting an Autometer 2121 Carbon Fiber 2-1/16" gauge cup. I chose this cup because the carbon fiber matched the OEM interior trim on my GT. The black base was hand fashioned from acrylic (plexiglass) and painted with Rustoleum Satin Black to match the OEM black plastic surfaces on the dashboard and gauge surround. I swapped out some of the hardware that came with the gauge cup for fancier hardware, like the black button head allen screws and stainless steel washers, to get the look I wanted. (Pics of mount fabrication to follow) Pics of final installation For the wiring I used Molex connectors in various sizes depending on the wiring (2, 3, 4 and 6 pin) placed in strategic places to ease removal of things like the gauge cluster bezel in case of future disassembly, maintenance or repair. I also used TechFlex ChromeXC as sheathing for the wires where it comes thru the firewall and to bundle the wires together for easy identification in the engine compartment and behind the dashboard. The ends of the sheathing were sealed with heat shrink tubing. Pics of some of the products used for the wiring. Here is a video of the boost gauge in action. Note that when the desired peak boost is reached, the gauge face turns RED. GTEASER
June 2013 Installed H&R springs They are the 3.6R springs P/N 54427-2. The job was pretty easy once I figured out that removing the rear shocks was easier with the 3 outboard LCA bolts removed, hub, shock and swaybar, letting it drop down and out of the way. Drop turned out to be exactly what H&R specified, 1.3" front and rear. Installed Nameless 5" Axlebacks Thanks to Feesh for ordering these for his 3.6R, deeming them too loud and drony on the H6, and passing on a great deal to me..with personal delivery!! GTEASER
July 2013 AutoMeter LED Dimmer Install So when I originally installed my Stack Boost Gauge, I hadn't figured out how I was going to "dim" the boost gauge, and my future gauges....use the stock dashboard light dimmer....or find another solution. As you can see below, the gauge was pretty damned bright, especially at night. I decided that I didn't want to tap into the factory wiring for dimming control of the gauges and I ran across this solution, an AutoMeter 9114 LED Lighting Dimmer. I extended the knob of the dimmer using a short piece of aluminum rod and used JB Weld to attach it to the dimmer. I then drilled a hole in the switch blank to the left of the mirror control on the dash and used JB Weld to attach the dimmer to the switch blank. With a little modification and a hole drilled in the side of the dashboard (hidden by removable side panel), the dimmer/switch blank can be snapped in and out of the dash trim exactly as the OEM switch blank. The dimmer was wired up, again using Molex connectors, to the boost gauge and powered up to an open slot on the auxiliary fuse panel with its own 1A fuse. Pics of Autometer Dimmer and custom install This is the result of the dimmer install. Much easier on the eyes at night. A couple pics from the month.... GTEASER
May 2014 Perrin 2015 WRX Shifter Bushing Install Super easy install, inexpensive mod, and fantastic results!!!! Below is the link to Perrin's website for the part (we may eventually have a 5th Gen Legacy section on their website). http://perrinperformance.com/i-17832937-brass-shifter-bushing-kit-for-2015-wrx.html Below is the LegacyGT.com forum thread with all the specifics, including the info about needing the 2015 WRX shifter washer (Subaru P/N 031208006) when installing this on a 5th Gen Legacy. http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/perrin-2015-wrx-brass-shifter-bushing-224656.html Pic of installation. DAMD Steering Wheel Install Ordered this with the group buy that 12sechatch put together through AVOJDM.com. It is the DAMD Styling Effect SS360-D with Red Stitching. It is also available with Silver Stitching. This d-shaped wheel is the only wheel available for 2012+ Legacys, there is no round wheel option. The 2012+ redesigned airbag uses spring clips to hold it in place on the wheel whereas previous models used a couple T30 Torx screw. The clips proved to be tricky but not impossible to release. The correct size screwdriver, a flashlight, a little patience and a steady hand to find their orientation through the holes in the back of the steering wheel cover was all that was needed to release them. Here is a link that nstg8r posted to show the same style wheel (with clipped airbag) being replaced on a BRZ. While it is very similar, it is not exactly the same because the cover on the back of the Legacy wheel is different, providing different access orientation to the spring clips. http://theattack.rallysportdirect.com/2013/05/how-to-install-prova-steering-wheel-on-2013-scion-fr-ssubaru-brz/ The wheel is an incredible improvement to the whole driver interface with the car. If you can afford this mod, I highly recommend it to massively improve the driving experience. Rear STi Brembo Install with DBA T3 ClubSpec 4000 rotors These are 2013 STi Brembos. I bought them in near perfect condition with less than 7k miles on them and the stock Subaru pads. All went according to plan and this was a fairly easy install. The most involved thing was removing the outer ring portions of the backing plates to clear the larger rotors and calipers. I used a cold chisel to pop the spot welds and then cleaned things up with a small angle grinder afterwards, and hit it with some black paint. However, unbeknownst to me when I started this, the Brembo caliper bolts are a different thread pitch than the stock caliper bolts. You need the OEM STi Brembo rear caliper bolts, part no. 901000326. Also, to make removing the rotors easier, have a couple M8x1.25 bolts, about 40mm long, handy to screw into the holes on the rotor hat. Installed Carbotech XP12 Front Pads (CT1078) These are pads for the OEM front calipers and I picked these up slightly used off EBay to compliment the rear Brembos for the upcoming track day.
