dahoseman Posted April 19, 2014 Share Posted April 19, 2014 For anyone that actually uses their outback in moderate offroading, I just saw that SubaXtreme is starting to export their products to the USA. I sort of wish I would have gone ahead and bought the SubaXtreme Offroad Sports Bar a long time ago. It's expensive as ****, but given all of the time, effort, and tweaking I did to build my bull bar/light bar.... it might have been similar cost in materials and time expense in the end. Subaru bullbars, sump guards and accessories - SubaXtreme Even with my King Springs and larger tires, I scrape my bull bar around town just driving over humps/bumps and dips. It's getting pretty well bent up underneath. Here's the bull bar that I built one out of fence piping and exhaust piping that bolts into my Roadmaster MX tow plate Roadmaster MX Base Plate Kit - Removable Arms Roadmaster Base Plates 917-3 I have my Harbor Freight $9.99 offroad lights on there, attached with some carriage bolts from Home Depot. dahoseman Posted April 21, 2014 Author Share Posted April 21, 2014 I have thought about a winch, but the bar itself isn't supremely strong. The tow points that it attaches to are bullet proof, but I would have to fabricate a different setup to attach between them to be worthy of a strong winch. I would like to get that bumper from SubaXtreme, but $2k+ is a hell of a lot. If I had the time that I used to have, I would consider fabbing a bumper on my own, like this one on the Outback forum http://www.subaruoutback.org/forums/96-outback-unpaved/135938-winch-bumper.html No, I haven't compared lighting, but I'm going to go ahead and install anyway. The spot lights that I have now are a little hard to keep aimed correctly when things bump them and they tend to light unevenly. Not so bad for $10 lights, but I think the dual 120watt 24" LED's might light better and not interrupt airflow into the radiator and up into the intercooler quite as much. We shall see. dahoseman Posted April 25, 2014 Author Share Posted April 25, 2014 Ah yes, the Superu. I have seen it before, but I had never seen the build. I wouldn't mind doing a body lift to mine, but it seems like a fair amount of work and I'm not sure it's worth it. The Subaru is fine for moderate offroading, but at the point of doing more extreme lifts, I would probably get a real off roader. I have a RalliTek skidplate on mine amongst various other mods. Enginewise, it currently has a 16g turbo, with injectors/pump, FMS 'knockoff' TMIC, ELHeader and CryoTune. It's putting out 280hp/300tq on a decently conservative tune. I'll be putting a SteamSpeed STX67-TD05 on it soon with a Perrin intake tube and Mishimoto radiator. My hope is that turbo will result in a slightly more linear and wider torque band, with a peak of ~320hp/350tq Suspension-wise, it has King springs all around, Whiteline sway bars, whiteline bushings in all fronts. Soon, it will have all rear Whiteline bushings and KYB 2004 struts. Other than that, it has a Parrot Mki9200 system installed with a subwoofer installed in a spare-tire mounted fiberglass enclosure. dahoseman Posted May 2, 2014 Author Share Posted May 2, 2014 I like the king springs. Although the car sits higher now, the handling feels improved with the added stiffness of the new spring alloy.
