HELP! RE 07 N/A Legacy Front Sway Bar Bushing

Fine Folks of the Forum,

For the last while I have noticed an awful suspension noise which I have diagnosed as front sway bar bushings (tested the theory by wraping the sway-bar in teflon tape and re-installing the old bushings - which made the noise dissappear, but is only a temp fix.)

I ordered Raybestos 5501730 replacement bushings which raybestos.com, amazon auto, and rockauto confirmed was the correct bushing for my NA legacy (i know the gt used a different swaybar) - however upon receiving the replacements I noticed they look nothing like my originals - they have a curved surface with three "lobes" (see picture in ad [ame=http://www.amazon.com/Raybestos-550-1730-Professional-Grade-Bushing/dp/B00A46GG9O/ref=sr_1_1?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1392668140&sr=1-1&keywords=Raybestos+5501730]Raybestos 550-1730 Professional Grade Sway Bar Bushing : Amazon.com : Automotive[/ame])

The originals on my car right now have a similar profile to these: [ame=http://www.amazon.com/Raybestos-550-1805-Professional-Grade-Bushing/dp/B00D4477HI/ref=au_pf_ss_2?ie=UTF8&Make=Subaru|13&Model=Legacy|64&Year=2007|2007&carId=001&n=15684181&s=automotive]Amazon.com: Raybestos 550-1805 Professional Grade Sway Bar Bushing: Automotive[/ame]

So whats the problem? can i buy different brackets which support these aftermarket bushings? Do i buy a different brand? Has anyone else run into this issue?

HI Lumberjacked

the type with the three lobes you would tyically find in pre 05 models .the other type would be the correct style for your car just be careful of the inside diameter eg the outside diameter of your sway bar as i cannot see on that listing what size sway bar it suits.

Thanks for the reply Steve - that is great information - I was going to try and return these, but since you said "pre '05 models" I looked up my fiance's 2004 Impreza RS and these are apparently made to fit her car, so it looks like I have a set ready for the impreza when they eventually degrade.

Now to find bushing that fit the 20mm bar on the legacy!

Im looking into whiteline bushings for my 20mm sway bar. I went to white lines website and here is what I have found available:

Rear bushing which looks compatible with the front (is it?): http://www.whitelinesuspensionparts.com/proddetail.asp?prod=W0406-20

Universal bushing (will this work with my stock collar?): http://www.whitelinesuspensionparts.com/proddetail.asp?prod=W21063

Prothane Universal Kit (anybody have experience with these?): [ame=http://www.amazon.com/Prothane-19-1163-BL-Universal-Greasable-Bushing/dp/B0038762CC/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1392921811&sr=8-4&keywords=20mm+sway+bar+bushing]Amazon.com: Prothane 19-1163-BL Black 20 mm Universal Greasable Sway Bar Bushing fits A Style Bracket: Automotive[/ame]

Energy Suspension Universal Kit (anybody have experience with these?): [ame=http://www.amazon.com/Energy-Suspension-9-5124R-Stabilizer-Bushing/dp/B004ALK6WM/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1392921811&sr=8-2&keywords=20mm+sway+bar+bushing]Energy Suspension 9.5124R 20mm Stabilizer Bushing : Amazon.com : Automotive[/ame]

So what i'd like to know is - which one of these will actually work on my N/A legacy? - Or, if you've been down this road before - what did you use?

I don't want to buy another set and get my vehicle in the air just to find out it doesnt work :s

HI Lumberjacked

The w0406-20 is the correct bushing kit for your car ,the unviversal w21063 wont fit in the bracket.

try and find a set of Whiteline W0406-20G this is the very recently released greaseless bushes they have a lining inside the bushing which does not ever need to be greased.
