98 OB RNV Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 Ok, this has been a little perplexing. I understand that there will be a little roll back after the tranny is put into park and the foot off the brake, but even more after the key is switched off from accessory? Its startling how much it rolls back. Its almost like there is a switch that is bad? I don't know.
monkeyposeur Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 The neutral inhibitor switch or cable may be out of adjustment. It sits on the passenger side of the 4EAT. There is a little pawl that locks the trans in place. When I replaced the neutral inhibitor switch I didn't adjust it properly so placing the shifter in park didn't engage the pawl enough to stop it from rolling. There are three or four screws that hold the switch in place. Instructions for adjustment can be found here: http://www.autozone.com/autozone/repairguides/Subaru-Coupes-Sedans-Wagons-1985-1996-Repair-Guide/AUTOMATIC-TRANSAXLE/Neutral-Safety-Switch-Inhibitor-Switch/_/P-0900c15280067321 I have yet to bother adjusting mine. Reason being is the downpipe needs to be removed to gain access to the switch. It is much easier to get at on an n/a subie.
