MDS
I recently visited family in northern Arizona, and on my way back to Phoenix my 5 Speed '00 Legacy GT experienced a catastrophic failure in a bad U Joint. It tore up the back of my transmission, bending the shaft inside, left the drive shaft and shift linkage badly warped, bent and creased. The shop owner in Holbrook AZ says he can't find any parts for it in the entire state, nothing that can interchange from any other Legacy or Outback models. He says it could cost up to $3500-4000 to find parts out of state and complete the work, which is insane! Can anyone help or offer any advice? ragman
Lots of used transmission options on car-part.com for you in the ~$1000 range. You will might need to get one shipped. Best of luck!
vr4
He probably wants the car. Car-part.com Enter your make, model, year and location. It'll give you interchangeable transmissions and location of them
CNY_Dave
I am a happy car-part.com user. It might be possible to change just the extension housing and guts, but you'd want someone subaru-knowledgeable to take it apart and make the call. Getting just a housing and guts is likely harder than locating a whole trans.
SSpeed
I would sign up for AAA and then use your "free" tows to get it home. Then hit the junkyard yourself. Should be tons of useable ones.
