Edit: Did a simple little Google search and seems that there are 2 versions of that particular tire. Seems Version 1 is being discontinued and Version 2 is still available but in limited sizes. She also said that like a performance winter tire, the PZN M&S does not like higher ambient and road temperatures, which would negatively impact performance, gas mileage, and longevity. Which might translate into they won't work as well in the late spring through early fall as a dedicated summer tire would - but we probably already took that for granted... The Nero M&S is not going away, although as productions shifts to different assembly lines, some part #s are discontinued and replaced by new part #s. This may give rise to the rumors you heard.
