minuccims
Is the 2.5i a 6MT or CVT?
Darksabre
Ah yes, sorry - its the CVT.
stu1811
I didn't think you changed the CVT fluid
Darksabre
Edit: Youre right - you dont normally change CVT fluid. I'm asking about the front diff fluid, which is separate from the transmission on the CVT models.
minuccims
From the manual: 6MT Tranny: 3.9 quarts CVT Front Diff: 1.4-1.6 Quarts Rear Diff (2x): 0.8Quarts Total Quarts (GL5): 7.1 - 3.9+1.6+1.6 Both the CVT front diff and 6MT use a T70 bit so I'll assume the gasket is the same. Don't recall gasket #s.
GTEASER
For the GT this is the only gasket you need. http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/12/27/5ygu8ahy.jpg GTEASER's 2012 Legacy GT - Sold GTEASER's 2009 XTeaser - Sold GTEASER's 1992 Legacy SS - Sold
minuccims
Is that the black gasket? Tightening torque: 44 N·m (4.5 kgf-m, 32.5 ft-lb) (Aluminum gasket silver) 70 N·m (7.1 kgf-m, 51.6 ft-lb) (Copper gasket brown) 70 N·m (7.1 kgf-m, 51.6 ft-lb) (Metal gasket black)
GTEASER
Yes it is black. Thanks for the torque specs minuccims! I will be doing the tranny and diff fluids this weekend. Darksabre
Thanks for all the info. The qt amounts help a lot. So are my gasket numbers right though? 1 for each plug, so 4 per car?
GTEASER
My understanding is that there are no gaskets for the rear diff, and the dealer only gave me the one pictured for the tranny. I really doubt you need 8 of those gasket. GTEASER's 2012 Legacy GT - Sold GTEASER's 2009 XTeaser - Sold GTEASER's 1992 Legacy SS - Sold

I really doubt you need 8 of those gasket. Thanks - I found the rear diff info in the service manual. Turns out the VA type rear diffs (used in the CVT's) use an actual gasket on both the filler and the drain plug, but the T-Type (2.5i 6MT and LGT) use liquid gasket [THREE BOND 1105 (Part No. 004403010) or equivalent] for the filler and drain plug. Sweet! Just found some 004403010 liquid gasket i had laying around from who knows when.

Bloobaru
I appreciate the great posts you all added to this; I have been considering doing both the manual transmission and read diff fluid changes, and after hours of research and posts like yours, I completed this today in just over an hour. Substantial metal shavings found on both magnetic catches; 6MT fluid came out looking like honey. Diff fluid considerably darker but I feel I could have easily gone another 10,000 miles if needed. But with what I have been reading about Redline LWSP and Motul 300, I figured shifting would only get smoother than with OEM fluid. It is! Thanks again guys. Details below: 2010 Legacy GT with 6MT, 76000 miles (first diff and 6MT fluid change) Rear diff: .8 qt of Motul 300 75w90 6MT: 1.2 qt of Motul 300 75w90, 2.7 qt of Redline Lightweight Shockproof Tools used: 1/2" drive torque wrench, 1/2" drive ratchet 1/2" drive breaker bar (for the rear diff) T70 Torx bit (for the 6MT) Utility pump Took it to the auto skills center where they offer bays with car lifts. Raised the car 5' up; preferred over jack with jackstands. Used the OEM gasket for the 6MT drain plug shown in an earlier post.
jojorios
That's exactly what I have been running since 30k and no complaints. Definitely felt the difference vs OEM.
amusa
I didn't think you changed the CVT fluid I have talk to the dealership about that. I was inform that they only change it if the fluid look dirty or dark. I have 86,000 on my CVT. I already changed out the front/rear diff fluid at 71,000 miles. I'm going to have the dealer look at the CVT fluid when I take her in for a recall for the airbag.
