deadpedal install question

i put the pedal in right away figuring i didn't even need any tools. i assumed the plastic stock one would just peel right off. now there's a big hole in my carpet. i know how to pull it up but what should i use to break up the adhesive holding the plastic to the carpet?

I just ran my pocket knife as close of an angle as I could along the pedal so it cut the carpet directly where it is stuck.. Worked pretty good
