csmitty
Hey I'm new here and chated some on suspension however I wanted to give a heads up on a potential issue with OBXT owners. I purchased my OBXT in sept. 04. Over the winter I began to see excessive paint wear on the front edge of the rear quarter panels. My dealer was good about the problem and re painted them this june 05, however he did say I was going to have to install a narrower tire this winter if I did not want to experience the same problem.... I'll post the photos of the damage...though some would call it petty I viewed it as excessive for a four month old car. I also would apperciate any advice on winter rims and tire combos or simular paint experiences smitty
boxxerace
I wonder if some rally type fender flares might help? Do you have aftermarket tires/ wheels?

drewster
i'm also having a hard time making out where the damage is from your photo. Are you saying that it's debris kicked up from the front tires that is causing the paint to come off from the panel?
csmitty
Yes the damage is from salt spray off the front tires. In the photo, the white colored areas are the plastic body panels where the paint has been worn off by sand and salt and snow.
scoobydude
I have a Garnet Red Outback XT and I must say that the paint on all the plastic panels to include the front and rear bumber is very thin. It's even a different color red than the paint on the sheet metal.
03Indigo
I don't seem to have this problem on my outback, but maybe after the fix, you have clear bra put on the lower pannels to protect from splash back and rock chips as well. I had this on several other cars, and it protected it very well. I have been debating on doing it to the outback, but have not gotten that far just yet.
