BlkLegacyGT
I got the car pre moded and dealer told me it has sti pinks with koni struts. I called koni and talked to a technician and he said they don't make struts for a 09 LGT but they do have inserts. And the springs don't look pink but look a more red; so i was thinking STP springs. Instead of just buying an insert cuz one bolt for the top -under the hood bolts- is broke and another is stripped(don't know how I didn't notice when I bought the car). And it wasn't sounding good, http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/need-help-identifing-noise-214602.html. But would it be OK to just get the KYB's and it should be OK with the springs I have ? Can't even find a part number o the struts i have
idiot4hire
Nothing wrong with kyb they just won't last as long as a aftermarket strut.
BlkLegacyGT
So maybe just change out the insert and put new mounts on it? I think there might be a blown seal due to the metal on metal clicking sound. Kinda like two washers clinking together. Sounds worse over a series of small bumps in roads
idiot4hire
Just change the inset konis are better anyway

Konis are way better than the KYBs, so I would just replace the insert and get new front top mounts. Pictures would help. -Mike Paisan http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/91072632.jpg http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/145749898/original.jpg http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/133406601.jpg http://www.whiteline.com.au/images/logos/perf1.jpg 11+ Years Maintaining, Modifying and Educating TriState Subaru Enthusiasts. BlkLegacyGT
It is the top mounts. 1 is totally gone and one is like a loose tooth. Donno how they broke or how long they've been broke for. I think I'm just going to replace the insert but I can't find any on koni website that shows if I can buy only one or if they come in a set, also can't find a price. BlkLegacyGT
i think i found out what is wrong with the koni insert, the screw that holds the insert into the housing is loose. when i tighten the screw it just keeps turning, turning, turning, turning and turning. Im tryiing to tighten it while there still on the car and the car is on the ground.

You should be able to find a replacement at a good hardware store, hopefully it's just the bolt and not the insert itself. -Mike Paisan http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/91072632.jpg http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/145749898/original.jpg http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/133406601.jpg http://www.whiteline.com.au/images/logos/perf1.jpg 11+ Years Maintaining, Modifying and Educating TriState Subaru Enthusiasts. BlkLegacyGT
Weird how it came loose and it was the first time I tried tightening it. Do you think it would be OK to leave the struts on the car and change out the screw or should I break it all down? Yea and I'm hoping the insert isn't stripped either. But I'm not sure if that would cause the impact to be so loud cuz its nit that loose just enuff for the washer to spin. So in my very firs post about the metal washer sound I guess I was dead on, wish I looked at the insert first but didn't even cross my mind. You should be able to do it in the car, no need to remove it. Even a small movement can vibrate up and cause a huge sound. Start with the things you know are wrong to remove any variables and then you can isolate the issue if it is in fact something else wrong with it. -Mike Paisan http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/91072632.jpg http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/145749898/original.jpg http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/133406601.jpg http://www.whiteline.com.au/images/logos/perf1.jpg 11+ Years Maintaining, Modifying and Educating TriState Subaru Enthusiasts. I know its a 5/16 allen but like length and thread size? I'm about to go check the other 3 inserts and make sure they haven came loose.

Just make sure the thread size is correct. -Mike Paisan http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/91072632.jpg http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/145749898/original.jpg http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/133406601.jpg http://www.whiteline.com.au/images/logos/perf1.jpg 11+ Years Maintaining, Modifying and Educating TriState Subaru Enthusiasts. BlkLegacyGT
OK cool thank you again for all your help. If this doesn't work I will be in touch with you for a new insert
AZP Installs
You could also retap it to a larger bolt if the insert itself is stripped out. Keep us posted. Mike
