imarock44
I have a strange problem my mechanic can't find. When travelling at/or above 40 mph I hear a strange tapping noise coming from the front end. It doesn't appear if I sit and rev the engine, if I coast or if I am in 2nd gear. Only when under load in 3rd gear. Any ideas? I'm thinking some kind of axel/transmission thing going on. I won't take it to the local Subaru dealers because of past problems...thanks
emyselfandi
could be transmission.. I guess you have check the cv boots/axles and belt pullies? I just had a rattle on my 95 but it was only when the car idled. It was the drivers side heat shield on the header. I'd check that too... good luck, Tim
imarock44
Thanks Tim - turns out it was something with a cv axle. had one replaced awhile back and the mechanic who did the work didn't completely reconnect everything. my new mechanic found it and fixed it in no time.
