You're wrong. Yes, Starlink won't work because of the 3G sunset. (Cell phone companies stopped using 3G, it wasn't a "Starlink 3G network" that went down.) Unless, as @Accustiver mentioned above, you got the upgrade to 4G done, which Subaru offered for free for a while if you were a Starlink subscriber. Depending on your car's hardware, that upgrade may have just been a firmware update, but it could have also required a hardware replacement. Apparently the Starlink module is separate from the head unit, and some of them had 4G capability, though it wasn't enabled. I believe they still offer the upgrade, but it's quite expensive. As for the Starlink app, Subaru has discontinued it, but I think the My Subaru app has replaced it. As far as what it may be capable of performing on your car, if you upgrade Starlink, I have no idea. Navigation updates are handled by a third party. @careygerald -Are you using a 4GB or smaller USB 2.0 thumb drive formatted in FAT32? Subaru specifically states not to use USB 3, and the head unit doesn't like anything but the FAT32 filesystem. I had to buy some cheap 4GB USB 2.0 drives off Amazon when I updated mine. I didn't even try with something bigger. And you are running the .EXE file first to extract the files from the archive, right?

Thanks @Accustiver for answering those. If anyone gets an STIS subscription and grabs any newer available update, I'll be happy to add them to my Google drive so they can all be in one place for future users. Alternatively, let me know if more recent updates are available and I'll do my own subscription to grab them.

OK, so as delivered, this update didn't work for me. I think I know the reason, and will check later today. For some reason, when you run the file to unzip it to a USB flash drive, it puts the files in a folder called GN_NA_14108. The earlier version doesn't put them into this folder and just puts the GraceNote_info.txt and gracenote_data folder into the root directory of the USB. So I think the head unit isn't seeing the files. I don't really want to mess around with the executable file, so I think just moving the GraceNote_info.txt and gracenote_data folder to the root directory of the USB should work. I'll try it later and post here if it works or not. If it works, I may recompress the files into a new .exe to simplify the process for those less computer inclined. OK, so my theory was right and I have updated my head unit after moving the GraceNote_info.txt and gracenote_data folder to the root directory of the USB. I have uploaded a file called GN_NA_14108_Fixed.exe to my Google drive that gets rid of the extra folder level when you make the USB. Nothing is changed from the GN_NA_14108.exe file except for the folder hierarchy. The original file is in my Google drive as well, and it's your choice which one you download and use.

According to the index at the STIS, there's a newer Gracenotes database available. (November 2021) If anyone happens to have an STIS subscription and can grab that database file, I'll upload it to my Google drive. You folks in Australia have a wider FM (and possibly AM) frequency band than in the US. Although it might only mean you are missing a station or two, it might also be a different enough firmware to brick your radio. I can only imagine what other differences there may be with SiriusXM, etc. There may be phone issues as well, as the US FCC regulations are certainly very different from Australia's equivalent. Is the radio model number the same as the one listed for the USDM Subaru that you grabbed the firmware for? If you're willing to take the chance on bricking your radio, go for it. But please report back here whether you were successful or not, so others may learn.

Deleting the SiriusXM presets (which except for one were the default channels that Subaru/Fujitsu puts into the head unit) cleared up my SiriusXM issues and it's working fine now. I'm going to grab that PDF file and put it in my Google Drive for future reference.

Thanks for that. Just recently I started having issues with my SiriusXM. I don't use it much, but I'm going to guess that they changed the lineu and I have some channels saved that are causing issues. I was going to reflash my head unit and see if it would work better, but I guess I'll give this a try.

Did you do the "Memory Initialization" after doing the update? That's an important step. You can reflash the same update, but I don't think the head units allow a flash to an earlier version. (I'm not certain, though.)

The first step of the update really does take a long time. Just wait patiently and it should complete. The progress bar may not move for quite a while. I think it may take longer than 30 minutes. I just walked away from the car and did some other things before going back to it later. I hooked the car up to a battery charger just to be on the safe side. No, there's no need to update to 9021 first. This current firmware contains all the previous updates.

If I remember correctly from when I updated mine, the DB entry changed after the second part of the update was completed. So maybe the dealer only did the first part of the update? EDIT: Looking back through this thread, it seems that the "DB" is the backup database version. Which should be updated to the current version with the second step of the flashing. I don't have my car here at the moment (Stupid body shop!!!) to check, but I'm pretty sure the numbers match on mine.

I agree 100%. In this case, "I have been told" is correct. The Outback and Legacy do use the same firmware, assuming the same head units.

Start by verifying which files you need depending on which head unit you have. My only thought would be that it provides one more possible failure point in the connections from the SD card to the adapter vs. a dedicated USB stick. And the cost of possibly replacing a head unit vs. $7 for two 4GB sticks, it seems like cheap insurance.

To check the version, car has to be on, but not necessarily running. (But running is OK, too.) You have to press and hold the "HOME" button, not the volume button, while you press the "TUNE" button 5 times. I don't know about using an SD card and adapter. I bought a couple of 4GB memory sticks just for doing the update to be sure. Although you could do it with just one memory stick if you really want/need to save a couple of bucks. OK, so it looks like there's an updated TSB 15-205-16R, dated 12/21/2020. But I can't find the updated TSB online to see if it is worth buying another 3-day subscription to download the files. Can anyone else find the updated TSB?

You'll likely have to find the European version of the Subaru Technical Information System, pay for a subscription, and then download the file. This site is mostly US domestic market, and I haven't seen anyone who has accessed the European or other markets STIS sites. If you do get a subscription to get the file, grab all the other files that you can for various models and head units. If you don't have a way to host them, I'll let you upload them to one of my Google drives and I'll host them so others can have access.

There are updates for some of the Clarion head units. I've put them up in one of my Google drives. But the CB735CL is not among the units that have an update available.
