  1. My rear brakes have been squealing for ever. After a million trysts to fix it the dealer finally put these rotors on. The part where the pad touches the rotor ( outside) is raised higher than the ( inside ) groove of the rotor. I have never seen rotors like these in my life? I was too pissed to ask them what they were but squealing is finally gone.[emoji106]

  2. Good info! http://img294.imageshack.us/img294/498/hail1mx.gif

BTW I believe the chrome rocker panel trim is still optional. Although the price has dropped signicantly (now lists at $129).

Good to know they've fixed the reverse gear annoyance and the suspension clunking...

The suspension clunk is still present on my 06. So is the squealing brakes. I have had the dealer change the rotors and pads to three different types. They still squeal a little but it's much better than before. The hesitation u talk about is the turbo lag or no? Mine has a lot of turbo lag BUT I actually like that. It's like being shot out of a 2 liter soda bottle with soda and pop rocks. Lol. The new rotors they put on are really weird. Half the rotor is raised. The part where the pads meet the rotor is higher than the inside part of the rotor? I can honestly say I've never seen a rotor like this. Very strange

  3. Cars are knocking BADLY, bone stock. There is a huge delay in the switch between open and closed loop fueling and the car runs at a stoich air/fuel ratio for a couple seconds under full boost. It is a bad, bad problem. Worse than when some of the first STI's were pinging on Cali gas. This affects every single '04+ WRX. Most people simply feel it as a flat spot in the powerband, which is the ECU pulling timing in response to the knock. Anything that helps the turbo spool quicker -- exhaust stuff, uppipe, etc -- exacerbates the problem because the car is at full boost longer before switching to open loop fueling.

By this token you would never modify anything on your car. Are you enjoying those RE-92's? Those are the tires "spec'd" by Subaru. I wonder why it puts them on nearly every single model. I bet it's because they were tested on each one and found to be the best possible tires, right? Maybe it's because the company gets a $2 discount per car when they buy xxx, xxx, xxx tires.

Maybe Subaru is using the exact same filter on our fancy turbo Legacys as it did on its 2.2 liter 1994 Impreza L. Well no, they made it skinner in '04.

Yes correct. Lets not confuse skinnier smaller and shorter smaller. As mentioned, the difference between the two Purolator Pure One filters (one being the stock filter that Subaru uses, by the way.... and you can get the Pure One's from autoparts stores for less than the stock one at a dealership, which should be no surprise) and the two Mobil 1 filters that I linked is how tall they are. They are all the same width. The manifold snakes around the side of the filter. Subaru did not change the height, they made it skinnier. No matter how tall the filter is, it has nothing whatsoever to do with its proximity to the manifold and nothing to do with how much heat it absorbs...

...actually, you could argue the taller filter gets more airflow, which would have a cooling effect. Increased oil capacity is a bonus. More filter medium means it can filter and hold more "stuff" without restriction. There is an inlet and outlet side in an oil filter just like an air filter. More surface area almost always means less restriction and longer service life.

The bright side is that our cars don't work filters very hard. I can't remember how many threads (dozen?) I've read with peoples' oil analysis results, but it's rare to see any breakdown before a good 8,000 miles, regardless of filter. To be completely honest, I don't think it's all that important on our cars.

Of course car companies will go with the cheaper way to do certain things if it makes sense. Every manufacturer of anything is going to do this. Now if this particular part or design comes out to be a huge mistake like burning up turbos, they will try to remedy the situation asap because this will affect future sales. Subaru changed their design of the filter because this again was the cheapest way to fix the problem. Not changing the exhaust configuration, not by redesigning the turbo not anything. Except to change the filter design. Wala problem solved for the customer using the cheapest way saving everyone involved money. Applauded the new engineer and fire the old one. Happens every day

  4. IMO, using the stock Subie oil filter is a no brainer. That is most likely the filter used when testing our engines and is most likely the filter spec'd by Subie engineers as one that will filter the engine oil correctly and maintain engine life. Why use anything else? No doubt other filters may perform better, but how can one be sure, given our turbo engine and proximity to the exhaust? To me using the filter spec'd by Subaru seems like the best choice.
    Well said. I agree

  5. Also, why in the world would a Subaru dealer not sell u the filter that's the best fit for your application? No they dont want your motor to explode so you have to have a new motor put in by the Subaru dealer.

If anyone believes this you have serious issues with conspiracy theories. 911 was committed by our government so we could go to Iraq to get their oil, UFOs are going to attack......you get the picture.

  6. At 78,000 miles I replaced the struts with Konis, replaced the stock LCA bushings with a Whiteline kit that retained stock caster, and the links wich secure the roll bar were bad and replaced as well. The car now rides beautifully and the clunking noise from the links is gone. Expensive, but that's what Subiebucks are for.
Cool. I love Koni. Had them on my M3. I guess I'm going to give it a shot cuz I love my Subi in every way but the ride comfort. IMO it handles just fine to me. Alot of people thing it's too soft but I can run through the twisties pretty good.

  7. You came looking for suggestions, I gave you one and you shoot it down without even a "Thank you"?

    Nice.

If you're such an expert why'd you ask for opinions?

If you want a more compliant ride, go buy a Buick.

And, no, sway bar bushings and endlinks will not affect the ride. Unless the endlinks are broken, but then you'd have a more compliant ride.

    Lol. You go girl!

  8. Well you arent kidding. I have never been in a more uncomfortable car in all my life. I mean over small cracks, expansion joints, and really over the smallest of potholes. It feels as if every ball joint tie rod CV joint everything is about to explode in to pieces. Yeah my car has 160k on it. I bought it 150 thinking it may be the tires or tie rods. Replaced the tires with Good Year Comfort Treads

Had the mechanic look at it numerous times and said nothing was wrong.

Now I had an Audi A6 with 200 on the clock before the timing chain took a shit. That car had the original struts and the ride was like a Caddy completely to my Subi. I get its car with a msrp of about 25k more but come on. I know there is quite a bit of aluminum on the Subi to reduce weight I'm assuming. So that could be it too. Not a solid frame and body. BTW. I have to say I had 90 300e 4matic with ridiculous mileage and that was the BEST riding car I have ever been in. You could hear that thud when u closed the door and it felt like you were in a tank.

Now I get it. Apples to Oranges but I'm to the point of wanting to sell it just to keep my kidney's from rupturing. Do I even want to waste the money on struts when I doubt it would help? Anybody ever notice a huge a huge difference with new struts? If so any particular brand?

  9. Had a vibration around 70-75. I put new Good Year Assurance 225's on stock 17"wheels, all new pads and rotors and the vibration is still there. A little better than before but still enough to annoy the $$%^ out of me. Any thoughts? Bent rim? Suspension? The tire guy said the wheels were fine so idk. What else could cause vibration? Motor completely rebuilt at 100k currently have 160k. Any help would be appreciated because I do a lot of high speed freeway driving.
  10. I've read reviews on how this GT is not great at handling. Wallowing in corners etc..

This is by far the stiffest suspension I have ever driven. Sounds like my front end is going to snap off on a small bump. Had it looked at and was fine. I drove my buddies 04 wrx sti and my suspension feels exactly like his? What gives,?

Turbo question. Once in awhile when its 85 and humid and I stomp on it, the turbo coughs almost like a engine misfire but its definitely the turbo.

Cars motor was rebuilt and turbo replaced all at 100k. Its has 160 on the car now so both only have 60k. Do you think it's just cuz it's too hot and humid. Turbo lag on this car is laughable compared to today's new cars..but I do love my Subic211f5c3dbff5a97da28f98a0134d004.jpg

  11. Hi guys and gals. For some reason I am unable to send pics? I'm working on it. Promise. Color- like a tomato soup red? Idk the color code or name. That's my next project. I wanted to make sure I can run 225-45-17's on my stock 7" rim? The reason i ask is i see pictures on here with 225s but with a 7.5 inch rim. Is the stock rim size 7.5 or 7? Also you are positive there will be no tire rubbing or hitting the fender on a bump?

These 215s are too skinny. Great for snow but that's about it.

I have to say the ride is crazy stiff? I had my suspension looked at to make sure nothing was wrong and it was fine. Is the reason BMW can make a suspension stiff and connected to the road and Subi can't strictly a cost issue? I'm running Hankook ventus v2 all seasons on my car which I just purchased. I would say 70% tread left. Man the ride is so choppy I'm going to have to wear a kidney belt. It sounds as if my ball joint is going to bust through the hood. Lol. Well I'm coming from a 2005 Audi A6 3.2 with Continental Extreme Contact 06. Great tire btw. But I know Audi is more comfort oriented. It wasn't the greatest handling car I ever drove but it wasn't a Chrysler K car either. Anyway I digress. So back to my fitment question. No problems? Thnx!!! Love the forum and my turbo!!!
