  1. Page 3 of this thread by a poster named "laufu". If this control is moved to the main settings screen then I'll be satisfied because I have to go there to turn on AVH anyway. What I really want is EVERY setting to stay the way I want it. It's my damn car.

     

    It’s moved to where you only have to do 2 taps. On the Home screen at the bottom tap the car icon and the very next screen it’s right there to turn on or off.

     

    I have to say from being in my wife’s Onyx XT Outback and seeing how this feature was working I had every intention of turning it off as soon as I got my new Legacy and keep turning it off every time. However whether it’s because of the new software that mine came with or the way I drive it has not been an issue. Over 3 or 4 days it’s only kicked in 3 or 4 times. All were appropriate where I was stopped for a reasonable period before it kicked in. I have not had it kick in at any stop signs or when I’ve pulled into a parking space.

     

    So for now I’m leaving it alone. It may have been my wife’s driving habits that made this so aggravating. But for now I’m ok, I’ll see how this plays out over time. I may change my mind later on and if so it is now easier to turn it off.

  2. When I got mine and confirmed that it had 504, I’m sure yours will as well, I went around to the service department to speak with on of the service writers about my wife’s car. The guy just told me they always contact Subaru’s system and install whatever is shown there. He didn’t know about any specific software update and I don’t think he was really paying that much attention to what I was trying to say. I’m thinking not all dealers get the updates at the same time and when some check they get the system to state up to date. It may depend on what servers they connect to when their system checks. Kinda like smartphone updates.
  3. Congrats! Got a text from my salesman mid-afternoon today saying they’re expecting my car to be in later this week.

    Thank you! Hopefully yours will available very quickly. Anticipating today’s possibility I had cleared everything out of my old car early yesterday morning. So I was ready to go. I just wish it wasn’t so stinking hot, I’m trying to get the settings where I want them and I just have give up after a while and go back inside.

  4. ...but mine was scheduled for 7/14, released the same day, shipped by rail on 7/15, and shipped by truck yesterday.

     

    If those dates mean what I think they do it was only built last week, so hopefully it left the factory with the 504 version already installed.

     

    Either way, its arrival at the dealership should be imminent!

    That sounds good to me! After reading your post I’m getting excited, my salesperson had called me Wednesday to tell me the status had changed to “released” so going by what you were told I’m hoping mine is on the way as well. I had called Subaru 3 weeks ago and was told his system was showing an arrival of 7/20-7/31. So that seems to be holding up.

  5. How long has everyone been waiting for their deliveries? I ordered a limted XT the last week of February. After pestering my dealer for updates weekly, they finally gave me a ship date of 8/12, 6 months after ordering. Curious if they long delays are just for turbo models or all legacy builds were delayed. Wouldn't surprise me they are delaying it until after the 0% finance deal is over.

     

    My order was placed January 20. I think the XTs, especially the Limited models, were significantly delayed. I’ve been regularly checking various dealer web sites around me and I’ve seen a fair number of Legacys (Non-XTs)on their lots. In the pictures they show of the cars I’ve seen 6/20 as the manufacture date so they are coming in more regularly. And now I’m seeing more Touring XTs pop up and one or two Limited XTs. I was told Wednesday by my salesperson that my Limited XT now shows a status as “released”, so based on the post above I’m assuming that it may be on a truck as I write this, fingers crossed.

  6. Yep, had heard about this and planned on asking for that to be checked and/or upgraded prior to taking delivery.

     

    Spoke to my salesperson this morning and she said the status of the vehicle on order has been changed to “released”, so hopefully the next update will say shipped or on the truck. I will check the software on the car when I’m called in. I have a copy of the technical service bulletin that they should have by now that covers the new 504 software update.

  7. you have to open and close the drivers door as well. Guess I should be happy that Subaru doesn't make you stand on your head and squawk like a chicken as well.

    I didn’t think about the opening and closing the drivers door, after turning the car off. What we had to do as well as others was shut the car down for some extended period of time, for us it was usually when we got home, parked and checked it the next morning. But maybe just the opening and closing would have done the same thing. Either way this software is going to be a nightmare for dealer service departments. Most of their customers do not follow auto forums to get some idea of what’s wrong and how to deal with it. I’ve always kept up with phone and tablet forums, never thought I’d have to do the same with my car.

  8. The audio going dead is one of the common occurrences with the older software - 502 - that most of the 2020s came with. We’ve experienced it along with various other issues. With some of these just turning the car off and then immediately back on doesn’t resolve it, leaving the car off for 20-30 minutes will generally fix it. Sometimes the immediate off/restart will fix some of the issues, temporarily. The new/current software release 504 deals with a lot this but some dealers are not yet up to speed on this since it was released toward the end of June.
  9. I want this to work as cruise control: you turn it on when you need it.

    I agree with you but once the software is updated it’s more convenient to access the control so will be less of an issue for me. However if they had just implemented a time delay, such as if the car was stopped for 30 seconds or longer it would kick in, I would just leave it on. There are many occasions in heavy traffic in backups or long stoplights that I turn the engine off myself so this function would do what I would probably do myself and I would appreciate the convenience. However shutting the engine down at stop signs or when pulling into a parking space and then restarting again is silly. If they can’t give us a button to turn it off completely - through restarts as you want - then alter the programming for longer intervals.

    Whew! I would surely be uncomfortable with attaching ANYTHING to the EyeSight system wiring. Lots of potential for screwing up a critically important safety system.

    Exactly! Especially since 2 taps and you turn the function off. Without risking damage or invalidating your warranty. Seems like a no brainer to me. I wish that it would remain off after restarting the car but unless you’re making a lot of short trips and stops 2 taps isn’t that onerous. Takes about as much time as pulling your seatbelt out and buckling it.

  11. i am not a fan of turbos, I'd rather have displacement a a flat 3.6 will easily go 3-400+K reverse image search email checker port checker without major repairs.... Seems like the turbos start having issues around 130ish K.

    We’ve had 3 Subaru turbo vehicles and I have a 4th on order. Two of them are 14 and 15 years old. Never a problem with the engines. We had driven the 6 cylinder versions at a dealer and with a friend’s car in the past. They felt sluggish compared to the turbos and not as well balanced with the extra weight up front. Subaru does an outstanding job with the turbos and I wouldn’t purchase a non-turbo version. We had some reservations at one time until we drove a 6 cylinder Outback and then compared it to the Outback XT that my wife purchased. The comparison was stark, and durability has not been a problem.

  12. Just called my salesman and he says they're currently showing the week of the 20th for mine. I have what I believe is the VON, but at this point I figure Subaru probably can't tell me any more than I already know.

    One thing to do when you get the vehicle check for the software version on the head unit. 504 is the newly released version and newly delivered cars such as yours should have that installed. But if not check and have the service department do the update. It fixes a whole host of bugs in the previous software. Unfortunately my dealer’s service department doesn’t seem to know about it. But when I get my car I will check and if it shows 504 I will bring it to their attention and have them do my wife’s Outback Onyx XT that still has 502 with all the issues.

     

    You can check when you get it by going to Settings on the screen and then scroll down to System and that will show the version.

  13. The factory is on shut down for MY change over so if your car wasn't available last week it's not going to available this week or likely next week.

     

    I talked to my local dealer about an XT and was told they are rare, hard to get, and was told I'd have to order one.

    Just got a text from my salesperson with the VIN number and a delivery date of July 31. Called Subaru and will be getting the customer loyalty coupon of $500 to use against the purchase price and his screen shows delivery between 7/20 and 7/31. I’m happy.

    I'm trying my best to be patient, but it's getting more difficult by the day.

    I feel you. I ordered a Limited XT in January and shown a May delivery at that time, then the shutdown. The last time I checked by calling Subaru myself I was told that mine shows an “arrival” in July. Well here we are a week into July and I’ve heard nothing. I’m going to call again tomorrow. I’ve seen people who placed orders in February and March getting those cars delivered in the last couple weeks. But I believe those were Outbacks. The Legacys seem to be a different story, and the Limited versions seem to be even rarer. I’ve checked a few dealer websites and I see that Touring XT models with a June manufacture date (they have included pictures with the door sill plate visible) popping up at a few dealers. If I’m told that my order has again been pushed off into August I may have my dealer look for a Touring XT that closely matches what I want. Otherwise it will only be a month or two before 2021 orders will be accepted.

     

    If your order is for a Touring version you may be able work something out soon. But I think you should call Subaru yourself - (800) 782-2783 - if you have that VON (vehicle order number) give that to them and they can check the status of the production. The dealers don’t get a lot out of special orders and don’t have a lot of incentive to keep on top of what’s going on.

  15. I had read on another forum that start/stop doesn't actually kick in unless you press the brake pedal fully (all the way to the floor) when you stop. Any truth to this?

     

    In any case, it's good to hear the option is easier to get to with the newest infotainment update. I have a Touring XT on order and start/stop is my one major reservation about it. When I test drove one it never actually shut off when I stopped.

    As @gibjer stated there are various factors that affect this function. Some have been able to modify what they do to circumvent it but not consistently. My wife has had her Onyx XT Outback since January, she refuses to turn the function off, and has not been able to effectively stop the function. The XTs seem to restart more quickly for whatever reason than the others. By that I mean that after the engine stops it will restart even when she’s done nothing, no release of the brake pedal, no touching of the accelerator or any change in her interaction that she’s aware of. It appears that the non-XTs require more action from the driver to trigger the restart. The only real consistency is that keeping the defogger on will prevent the function from kicking in. It annoys me a lot when I’m in the car with my wife but she doesn’t want to mess with the controls.

     

    I wouldn’t mind if the feature had been implemented with some kind of time delay - such as being stopped for 30 seconds or more when in a heavy traffic backup or at a long stoplight with a lot of traffic. I do that manually myself frequently when in those situations. But to shut down because you’re at a stop sign or pulling into a parking spot (and then restarting as you lift your foot off the brake pedal) is ridiculous.

  16. New software has just recently been released. It makes the stop/start a little more convenient to turn off, 2 taps instead of 3. It also fixes, hopefully, many of the glitches people were experiencing with the head unit and Starlink. Apple Car play is full screen also. My wife has the 2020 Onyx Outback with the Startex material for the seats. The seats are extremely comfortable and I would expect they would be in any fabric. Hers came with the wood grain trim but it’s in locations where I never really notice it so I don’t consider it worth paying for. I like hers so much I placed a Legacy order in January, I’m currently driving an ‘06 Legacy. Due to Covid and factory shutdown I haven’t gotten the car yet, it’s a possibility that I may get it by August but I’m losing hope and just may cancel and place an order for the 2021s when they start accepting them. Mine is a Limited XT which are rare right now, the other models seem to be more readily available. I did not include the wood grain, from my wife’s interior, which is identical between the Legacys and Outbacks in the front, I’d be paying for something I’d never notice.
  17. Yes, its best to have the dealers do this. Some units have not fared well and the dealers have had to replace them. I believe at some point they can be downloaded onto a usb stick and installed on the unit but if the proper procedure is not followed there could be a big problem. Most are going to have regular service performed about twice a year and can have them check available updates then. This particular one I would make an effort to do as soon as possible as there have been multiple reports of significant issues, I know my wife has run into most of them. Unfortunately she just had her regular 6000 service before it came out so will have to schedule another appointment soon.
