  1. Finishing up a turbo/intercooler/injector swap today. Going to change the oil, drain and fill ATF and refill the coolant system. Anyone have tips on filling/burping the coolant system to avoid air pockets?

Thinking I will refill the radiator then turbo coolant tank, then run it with the turbo reservoir cap off and give the top radiator hose a squeeze to get air out. I've seen people mention using a no-spill funnel but is it necessary?

The no spill funnel helps avoid smells if it burps and splashes on turbo or DP. Alot cleaner job IMO. Your turbo coolant tank is the highest point on system.

  2. Hey y’all, I’m shopping for a blue battery tie-down and Cusco caught my eye but there are three types. My battery is 165mm (OEM Subaru). Which one will fit? The sites that sell them aren’t very precise.

    Thx

Side note; http://www.p1woc.co.uk is putting up a group buy for Prodrive anthracite OEM centercaps. I just ordered a set! New production run apparently. Waiting on a few more buyers.

  3. The 2015+ rack fits fine on a spec.B (same as the regular LGT). The part number for the new rack was superceded in 2019, but I think they're effectively the same. Not sure about the 2020. I've fit both 34110VA120 and 34110VA121 on my '07 spec.B.

On topic: LGT has been driven and parked in my parents' garage where it will spend the winter. Time to parts hoard to give it some springtime gifts when it comes out of hibernation. I'm thinking a KBHH with EGT bung + sensor and new coilovers. Because why not?

Cool thx. Did you notice a difference between the 120 and 121?

Returning to the thread, I put winters on (gold STI V7 with Hakka 9’s) and finished putting all underbody and wheel wells after rustproofing. Bring it on harsh Quebec winter weather! I’m ready.

  4. Hi, two questions concerning steering. (I couldn’t find the particular info in Underdogs STI rack swap).

2015+ rack will fit in a spec.B but up to which year and version; ie; obviously not electric assist, but in parts.subaru some sti’s have different part numbers for the rack in certain years and trim levels. My question is, will a 2020 type va rack fit or I can’t go past 2019 for example?

Second question, I saw an 2015 STI steering DAMD shape for sale, is it a direct swap or too much wiring involved to keep oem setup with my s# and radio controls?

Thx in advance for the info

  5. Stupid question but I checked on parts.subaru.com and starting in 2018 the rack and pinion parts number changes as well as version, ie; Type RA is not same part number as premium. So, in order for me to swap in a 2008 spec.B, which years are bolt on? (Except the tie rod mod etc.). I don’t want to order from a 2019 STI for example and not have it fit at all.

    Thanks in advance

  6. Hey people,

I've been chasing a front end clunk/knock. It comes and goes but feels like a knocking sensation around the pedal box and you can feel it in the steering wheel as a slight thud. Taken the car to my trusty mechanic a few times with no luck. It's kinda prominent when on an incline or turning. I back into my driveway which is on a very very minor incline.

I have a Whiteline sway bar. The end links were rubbing and so those were dealt with. I have new front LCA bushings. I haven't got an idea. Steering wheel bushing maybe? I've also checked to see if the brake pads in my Brembos are sliding around.

Ball joint, motor mount, pitch stop, tranny mounts?? I had same issue. Finally it was right ball joint.

  7. On a different subject, I purchased a Kartboy spec.B short shifter from a secure online vendor only to have them email me there’s an error and it’s discontinued. However, the transaction went through yet they never refunded me even though order status says they did. This also happened to a fellow member on the facebook spec.B group. Just make sure when this happens that you follow through and make sure the refund is issued as I ignored following up on it thinking it was done automatically. Since it’s been over a year, Paypal can’t file a dispute, (I know, I was sure the refund was issued and I made other purchases so I didn’t keep track).

UPDATE; I edited my OP since as I have contacted the vendor and they are looking into it. I didn’t want to bash or anything but just make sure when you purchase online that you stay on top of things! I’ll post more updates soon

  8. If that's the part I'm thinking it is, I don't know of anything aftermarket.

Looks like TiC makes the same thing you posted. Idk if wrx ones are the same size though because I found these.

I put the TiC STI ones on pivot on the inside (shifter pivot) and also TiC on ujoint just out of tranny in the hardest place to fit your hands!! Made shifter feel alot sturdier! For spec.b its “06+ shift linkage bushing” and for shifter its “6MT pivot bushings”

  9. After 18 months of work, I finally got my specB back on the road!

A brief overview of the work I did entirely by myself (well, my wife held a lot of stuff at various points, lol) in my home workshop:

    - Full color change to Subaru M1Y "Crimson Red Metallic" (glass out, door jambs, inside doors, under hood/trunk, etc)

    - JDM front and rear end (Rev A-C front w/honeycomb grille and JDM HID headlamps)

    - Fiberglass wide body kit

    - Air Suspension from Bag Riders

    - Built custom 3 piece wheels to fit body kit (18x10.5 -12 / +0) - Rotiform LHR (they were on my WRX wagon before)

    - Full undercarriage restoration (stripped to bare metal, resprayed epoxy + undercoat)

    - Complete overhaul of front and rear suspension, every nut, bolt and bracket replaced, all aluminum parts vapor blasted, all new bushings

    - Complete audio overhaul (total rewire w/14awg, JDM double din, two amps)

    - Brand new front and rear glass

    Exterior:

    Interior:

Some time ago I swapped the blue interior to the 08-09 black interior and upholstered all the upper trim myself with black ultrasuede. Black sunvisors are out of a 15+ WRX. Map/Dome lights from a GR STi and I had an upholstery shop make me new shifter and parking brake boots with nappa leather and grey stitching to match the specB seat stitching. I also replaced the very tired steering wheel with a brand new OEM wheel about 6 years ago when I bought the car.

    Can't forget an undercarriage shot:

The car is a 2007 model year and has just shy of 200K miles on it. Over the winter I intend to rebuild the engine and refresh the steering rack and front crossmember, along with any other areas in the front clip that would benefit from some TLC.

    Wow!! Beautiful!!

  10. Been trying to track down a really loud rattle and little squeak for a couple weeks now.

Finally figured it out. The TiC tranny crossmember bushings have disintegrated. They are almost gone. So frustrated, off to find better ones now.

    They lasted approximately 5 years.

    Edit: Whiteline bushings coming Thursday...

Which TiC tranny crossmember bushings did you have? The black ones or pink?

  11. Did the handle ball pop out of the socket, or move up somehow? There shouldn't be that much of movement to be abnormal when it is fully seated in the socket.

No, it all feels normal. Nothing out of place but as I keep reading forums and as Marvickgt mentioned, it might have to do with reverse cable. It seems in place but could’ve loosened adjustment inadvertently. Will investigate further. Thx

  12. Replaced my tranny mount with the Perrin one and Turn in Concepts pink crossmember bushings and on the way home shifting towards fifth, the shifter went waaaaay to much to the right. I didn’t touch anything in regards to the shifter linkage or anything in that area. I feel a rubbing or click type tension then it goes past fifth and sixth alignment axis. Why this all of a sudden? Shifter never went that far to the right, is that even possible?

Tomorrow, (weather permitting) I might swasp my steering joint for solid STI and will have a look in the shifter linkage area to see if I missed anything or torqued something wrong. I’m stumped. Any advice or help would be appreciated. It doesn’t hinder my driving, I can manage to shift 5th and 6th if I don’t push it too far to the right and no NVH or anything out of the ordinary. It’s just agravating when I don’t know the why and the how. Will take a gander at vacation pics to see if my brain can visualize a missed sequence or step, IDK. Has this happened to anyone here? Shifter stop??
