  1. I’m wondering if Walmart didn’t have a washer and painted the whole area with the blue stuff. When I took the bolt out, I had to feel my way around. In my opinion, at first I thought there might be a washer stuck on the pan. After feeling around, it seemed like threads running all the way to the edge of the hole.
  2. Ok,

I’ve been working on changing my oil for the last couple of weeks.

Today I put a 1/2” breaker bar on the bolt, which was very tight and Walmart blue goop on the bolt. I got the bolt loose, without lifting the car. Health issues keeps me from doing things that I used to do.

Anyway, after getting the bolt out, there was no crush washer on it.

I do have a question though, because space was limited, I could not tell if the crush washer was stuck on the oil pan. It looked to me that after removing the drain bolt, there is a little flange between the drain hole and the pan.

Can anyone please confirm this? I put on a new crush washer and it seemed to do its job.

  3. I spoke with the guy at Walmart. He advised me that they put the goo on there, to see if someone breaks the seal and tampered with it.

It’s a good idea, but it seems like they really tightened the bolt good.

I’ll have to take the advice of getting a breaker bar, and try it again.

    Thanks for the info.

  4. Ok,

My first mistake was going to Walmart for an oil change.

Now it’s possible that the bolt was leaking. It’s the first oil change done, since I purchased this 2014 Legacy 2.5.

Attempting to do an oil change this morning, there was a glob of blue stuff like epoxy on the bolt. Telling me Walmart over tightened or they were trying to fix a leaky bolt. Either way, I would like to get this bolt off, start doing my own oil changes again, and hopefully be able to fix this problem without breaking the bank.

In the past, I’ve used an oversized bolt, which I had pretty good luck with. It’s been years since I’ve done that fix, and I don’t remember if I need a certain thread size?

Also, someone mentioned to me, about some type of spout, which makes oil changes a bit easier.

Please, if anyone has ever dealt with this problem before, can you please share some information? All I know is that I put a12” breaker bar on the bolt, and it was very tight. I was afraid of breaking the pan or the bolt.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

  5. My car only came with one key.

There’s a local hardware store in my area that cuts and programs keys. They are pretty expensive. The key with the built in fob is about 200.00 , a key without the fob, is 89.00.

    Question, I’m new to Subaru.

If I use the key without a fob to open the door. Will it activate an alarm?

I’m not sure if using a fob key unlocks the doors and deactivates an alarm at the same time.

  6. Ok, I’m currently driving a 2014 Legacy 2.5. All in all, I’m happy with the car.

I’ve wanted a Subaru for years, and now finally have one.

One question I have is, while driving on the highway, the car cruises beautifully going down the road at 70 to 80 MPH. When I go to pass another driver, the car gets louder when I give it gas while passing. Almost like it has an aftermarket exhaust like the kids use on their cars.

Is this normal? I was told before I bought the car, that boxer engines are a little bit noisy. If anyone has any feedback, it will be greatly appreciated.

I did take a quick look under the car today, thinking that maybe a hole in the muffler or exhaust pipe might be the culprit. Nothing looked out of place.
