  1. Got the 2013 nexus7 last wk, the vag Kkl cable and otg adapter. Looking to do this in the next day.

Can anyone give a little help (maybe a how to vid somewhere online) with the Rom I need to flash (Timur rom I believe or somthn better if there is that anyone knows of) and any other bits of info, gesture apps for easy use etc that may be nice?

Only using for btssm (maybe nav and possible backup cam in the future)

    Thanks

  2. Has anyone yet been able to obtain any data on how much of a change this produces? More air directed towards the intercooler must have some effect, but I'm not sure what to measure if I save up enough pennies for one.

Do you really care that much about what it does aside from looking mean as f$&k?!?! [emoji38]

Don’t take it the wrong way not tryin to bash you or be rude. If it increased flow to the IC then great and if you wanted to do the legwork to find out then kudos to you but just look at how much meaner this looks compared to your stock scoop!!

Little piece that makes a big difference in the look of the front end of these cars. A JDM Sports front bumper helps too [emoji1787]

  3. Wooosh , the color is spot on !!

Thanks Madrig. Many thanks to u and ur beautiful pieces. More pics will come when she’s ready. Almost there. The color transition from light to dark is just ridiculous!! Goes from this dark gray to an almost chrome/aluminum in the sun. Beyond happy with my color choice!!

Everything u do is much better than good. You are quite the craftsman. Don’t be so modest. Own that shit. Haha

  4. I found a writeup on nasioc on an 02 WRX. Not same head obviously but very similar. His method seems pretty logical to me

Was thinking I’d follow this idea to some extent (and prob around the top corners as well) and a bit more on the elevation change spots and do a thin bead around the spark plug gaskets (thanks dishwasher). I don’t blame u for being somewhat generous with the stuff who the hell wants to do this twice cuz ur first attempt leaked [emoji23]. Don’t think it would hurt as long as I don’t go overboard with it.

  5. I'm doing the gasket replacement this weekend. Guess I better get some of those rubber vent tube hoses for the passenger side just in case.

Update: I followed posts 85 and 104. They covered the process and tricks. Good info. I did not jack up the engine and was able to do it ok.

I just ordered the parts to do VCGs, spark plug gaskets and new plugs. Read through this and never really got clarification of where the Permatex Ultra black goes. Is it all around like post 73 shows or just the spots shown in the Subaru manual and like a few others stated? Or does it only really matter that you in fact use it one way or the other? Also Permatex around the spark plug gaskets or just the new gaskets themselves? Thanks

  6. Finished my install a few months ago but finally got her all wrapped one color about 2-3 wks ago and forgot to put it in here. Future plans include a Nexus 7 in the vent cubby with btssm and a backup cam

  7. Yes, there are specific $15 cables you can get to USB to an OTG cable to the tablet. I need to go see if I can find the one I have. Or someone else may chime in before I find it.

I emailed btssm.com (heiche) to see if he still has/makes the KKL cables with OTG adapter. Wanna keep it as cheap as possible but would rather support the community if it’s a matter of a few $ difference. If you can find out where you got yours in case he doesn’t get back to me I’d appreciate it. I was looking on google and eBay and they have the vagcom KKL OBD2 to USB for like $7 and the OTG adapter for like $3-5. Curious if these will work if he doesn’t get back to me

  8. I used to use the N7 in my LGT for logging and real-time gauges with BtSsm.

Things I used in my install:

    • Nexus 7 2013 Tablet
    • 4-port USB hub
    • Tactrix OpenPort 2 (I also opensource tune my car, so I already had it)
    • RS232-USB serial converter for my wideband O2 (could also just get it from ECU but wanted the digital connection offered by my Innovate LC-1 and BtSsm)

Besides that, the install is the same as all of your other media nexus7 installs (modified kernel to allow USB-OTG charging, and a USB-OTG charge/data y-cable).

Shameless plug: I'm selling the JDM double-DIN vent/nav bezel from my LGT since it's been sitting for over a year now.

Cool. Thanks. If you don’t mind me asking why did u take urs out? Is there flaws with these tablets that make em not so good a choice? Think I’m better off going with gauges?

  9. I was reading through this and found a lot of people using this mostly for media (bluetooth/music/video/nav) purposes with a lot involved . I have a jdm double din already in my 05 GT wagon with Bluetooth phone/music, app radio with nav etc, dvd video. All the usual goods.

So getting to the point, instead of doing a 3 gauge pod in my vent cubby, I was thinking of installing one of these just for real-time engine monitoring with btssm (or other app) and a backup cam only.

Can anyone give me some tips of what I’d need for this? Obviously a backup cam kit with wiring etc. What type of OBD2 cable would I need (at the tablet end) for btssm? Is this hardwired from the OBD2 plug to the tablet thru USB on the tablet end or something else? I’d personally like to be able to hardwire it from my OBD2 to the tablet if that’s possible so no WiFi/Bluetooth etc is needed and I can just run the app with gauges of choice displayed. Can this be done?

Keep in mind I’m a bit technologically challenged wen it comes to stuff like this. Answers and any other input would be appreciated. Thanks

  10. Here’s the TRS Quik Kit. Not anything spectacular but a huge upgrade from the OEM projectors and an upgrade to even the JDM HIDs. Call and they’ll give u a 10-15%. Get the whole kit. Especially the brights harness. Winds up like $270 shipped. It’s awesome. Lights are great and brights are ridiculous. I’ve run a few of their kits over the years with zero issues

Here’s a few pics of my retrofit

Amber delete, full housing blackout (matte black). In hindsight wish I used gloss or satin but looks good though so I saved myself the extra day of respraying. The side “bars” are blacked out with VHT nightshades so it’s a full stealth blackout but marker/blinker light still shines through

I’ve done like 5 retrofits (projector replacements and conversion of a reflector which is a lil tougher) and this is child’s play. Harnesses are all completely plug and play and the projector swap is a few screws and ur done. Would do it 100x over.

  11. Sports bumper is pre facelift. That’s what I have. It is a one piece grill and bumper. If you don’t plan on doing post facelift on it I wouldn’t suggest spending the $ on pre facelift JDM headlights. Just get a clean set of OEM headlights and black out the housing and retrofit them...huge upgrade in both looks and light performance. I did my retrofit for under $300 and like 4hrs of my time.

If you want some pics of my retrofit and link where I got em let me know. Don’t wanna jack ur thread if u don’t care to c it

Lookin really good by the way!! Good choices so far
