  1. Is there a place to be able to go out and look to see if there is an update available for your specific vehicle? I don’t have a problem paying the $35 to grab the downloads, but I don’t want to pay only to find out that there isn’t a download for my vehicle. Thanks in advance and thanks to everyone keeping this thread alive and sharing the info and files! Edit...looking at the TSB linked I can see that there is a new one out for my vehicle. Thanks for that. I stand by my previous question regarding being able to research versions prior to paying the subscription. Again...thank you all for the data.
  2. They’re not hard to do. Yesterday’s went fine and all is well. Until the next one. The tech admitted that he didn’t check the SXM function after the first time because he didn’t know I subscribed. Not a very good reason to not check it. I got on my iPad this morning and a couple of my apps needed an update. Imagine if that cost $5 each time an update was available. Bad business. At this point I’d be semi-happy if I could just go somewhere on my own to find out if there’s an update available.
  3. The issue I originally had which prompted me to get the system updated was that my SXM listing disappeared. The problem I had after the update was that the SXM didn’t work at all. I would select an XM channel, and a searching window would pop up and never go away. Tried refreshing via SXM website. The unit response lagged quite a bit too. I think that the install was incomplete. When the service manager asked the tech about it, he said that the car fought him (whatever that means). Their plan is to use new usb drives today and go through it again. It cracks me up that their first thought is always “the radios bad, we must replace it”. We will see what happens today.
  4. Just spent an hour and half down at the dealer getting OU9312 loaded into my non-nav 16 Outback, only to have to turn around and go back down because my radio doesn’t work (three hours total). Have to go back down again tomorrow. I suspect that the tech only partially loaded the firmware. He mentioned that it fought him, and when questioned his first response was that the radio needed to be replaced. I’ve already had it replaced once when he couldn’t update it (even though I was able to acquire the firmware and successfully update myself). I did verify that the dealership will charge $115 for these updates out of warranty.
  5. This issue is VERY frustrating! I had to have my head unit replaced because it would not accept the update at the dealership. I got my hands on the update here and attempted the update myself, and guess what? It updated just fine. Since warranty is 1000 miles out from expiring, I had them replace the head unit. Noticed on Monday that my XM listing was gone. Didn’t think much about it. Just had the car in on Tuesday for a front diff service. Am guessing that there is yet another update. This absolutely needs to be made available to the owners so they can do this themselves if they choose to perform the update to keep their equipment up and running.
  6. For those of you trying to get updates for Nav, are you trying to get firmware updates or map updates? If it’s the later, you can do this yourself at home. Subaru map updates dot com (all one word for first part). Download the map updater and follow directions. I’ve updated my wife’s 18 Legacy twice now. It’s pretty easy. I seem to remember it giving me the warning about 7 hours, but it’s never even come close. Forty minutes tops. I didn’t purchase anything extra for the map updates (that I know of) and the system says that I am good for updates until like 2022.
  7. My wife’s 18 Legacy connects to our WiFi. Not sure what it updates though. I still have to download map data for the nav to a usb and install it manually. But I can. My pc/mac/iphone/iPad...I ask it to check for updates from home and decide if I want to install them or not.
  8. Prugen...thanks. I have PM’d Jdog81. No reply. Can only assume that he/she does not have those files. Ammcinnis... appreciate the words, and I understand/agree (kind of). I’m more frustrated with the process. With a safety recall, I’m notified. With service bulletins, like this, there’s no notification process. I understand that the dealer may or may not check for these open campaigns when the vehicle is brought in maintenance. I don’t use the dealership unless I absolutely have to. I do most all of my own maintenance. I’ve had too many experiences of having an oil change done and getting home only to find that someone had spilled oil all over the engine and didn’t bother to clean it up. I get that it’s their software...just like Windows or Mac. They still provide updates, free of charge, to keep their machines running as well as possible (usually). Like I said...frustrated with the processes in place. I appreciate your input.
  9. I contacted SOA regarding updates not available anymore. Here’s the correspondence: Up until earlier this year, firmware revisions were available to the owners at https://content.subarunet.com. That link appears to be dead now, and subarunet needs a login. Is there somewhere that owners can go to download current firmware revisions so we can install them into our vehicles on our own schedule? I am perfectly capable of doing these installs myself, similar to map data installations. Thank you much, and I look forward to hearing back from you. Here’s the reply Thank you for contacting Subaru of America Inc. The address you have listed is an internal site and should not have been posted publically. Software updates must be completed at the authorized Subaru retailer. I apologize for any inconvenience. Should you require any additional assistance, please feel free to contact us at 800-782-2783. Sincerely, Martina Brown Subaru of America, Inc. Customer/Retailer Services Department 1-800-SUBARU3 (1-800-782-2783) Here’s my reply: Thank you for the reply. This makes no sense, unless software updates are free. I understand that while under warranty it would be, but how much is it for vehicles out of warranty? Let’s compare this to a personal computer. How do you think it would fly if you were told that, even after the warranty period, you had to take/pay for updates? I have computers, that I own, that are older and I keep the updates current. Why shouldn’t I be allowed to do the same with my car? If I screw up the install, then I am liable to get it fixed, at my expense. Please elevate this to whatever level it needs to go to for resolution. As a loyal Subaru owner I find this to be completely absurd. Thank you in advance. I think we need to completely bombard SOA with complaints of not being able to do this ourselves. I’m still looking for copies of OU9309_USB_1st.exe and OU9309_USB_2nd.exe should anyone have them to share. Thanks!!
  10. I have a 2016 Outback 2.5 Premium, non-nav and am in desperate need of the update files. Link to download is dead, and that appears to have been the only place to have been able to download. I visited dealer today to have them do it, but they claimed that something is wrong with the head unit and it needs to be replaced. Would really like to try this myself before they go tearing my dash apart, creating rattles, etc... if anyone has the necessary files that they can send my way via a PM or email, I would sure appreciate it. BTW...we have an 18 Legacy too, so I’m not just hijacking the site being an OB owner and all ;-). Thanks a ton!
