  1. I have a friend with a 2018 GTI who loves Android Auto and swears it is flawless. He has a Samsung S10+ IIRC. Yesterday, no matter what I did, I could not get my iPhone 11 Pro to connect to the HK(aka Samsung) head unit in 2018 Legacy. No CarPlay, no BT, nothing. I rebooted the HU and my iPhone multiple times, tried my backup lightning cable. This morning, it worked fine aside from the usual audio drops until halfway through my 20 minute commute and then only BT would work. I'd wish Subaru has to replace all the faulty units with an all new design that actually works, but I am a jaded Gen X realist who knows the world doesn't work that way.
  2. Thanks for your response. Unfortunately, the question I am trying to get answered is whether switching to Android results in an improvement.
  3. yeah, I've seen those, although I don't think they used the terrible HK head units in the 2018-2019 Legacy for their testing.
  4. I'll take that to mean that Android Auto isn't any better with the 2018 Head Unit than CarPlay is.
  5. I am seriously considering switching to Android after Apple has failed to produce quality software in the past few years (and it seems to be getting worse). I was wondering if Android Auto on my 2018 Legacy would perform any better than CarPlay currently does. Current CarPlay issues include audio dropouts, failing to connect randomly. The CarPlay icon showing up on the Home screen, but tapping it results in no response, and certain apps just don't work that work fine on my wife's Pioneer HU. Anyway, if anyone has any feedback, I'd appreciate it.
  6. Started production in January 2012, so 8 years.
  7. The current/original BRZ/86/FRS is a Toyota design with a [mostly] Subaru powertrain. This is just a new version of what already exists. It even has a Toyota digital clock! Still, I think this is good for Subaru in the long term. Market forces are going to continue to punish smaller car companies. I fear for Mazda.
  8. There is a front airbag, which deploys from the steering wheel, and side curtain airbags which deploy from the roofline.
  9. It depends a lot on the model of tire you are considering. I got Michelin Premier AS on my wife's Forester three years ago. They were definitely quieter than the Yokohama Geolanders and Pirelli P4s it had had before, but about the same as the Yokohama Ascend GTs that is has now. You can check the reviews at tirerack.com to see what their testing says about noise. For instance, the CrossClimate+ the OP referenced is louder than one of the competitors in this comparison, but has much better handling characteristics: https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests/spiderChart.jsp?ttid=231
  10. Why does Perrin not list the 6th Gen Legacy as compatible? Here is another option FWIW: https://www.rallysportdirect.com/part/steering-rack-bushings/ts-su-310-torque-solution-steering-damper-lockdown-kit#confirmed_fitment Of course, it doesn't list the 6th Gen Legacy as compatible either.
  11. Probably depends on the state. In NC, it is 2 years, 24k miles for instance.
  12. Couple of questions: 1. You had your 30k service performed at 10k miles, or is that a typo? 2. Did you have some service performed on the CVT? I didn't think that should be necessary at 30k.
  13. I just went to put the trash out, and I heard an odd whirring sound in my garage. Upon closer inspection, I discovered the noise was coming from under the rear, driver-side of my '18 Legacy. It continued for several minutes, so I eventually turned the car on to see what happened. That made the noise stop, and it did not start again when I turned the car back off. Any ideas what I was hearing?
  14. I wish I didn't have to get a sunroof to get other features that only come on higher-end trims. I never use it. What a waste.
  15. The 2018 Legacies got a new HK unit with CarPlay and Android Auto, and it is buggy as crap. It has many advertised features that have never arrived, like updates via wi-fi, and it likes to freeze. I honestly don't see how the auto industry hasn't standardized on some Android platform which allows them to all put their own skin/apps on it. Whatever my 2018 HK unit is running is worse than some senior projects I've seen from computer science majors.
  16. I was just about to ask the same thing. IMHO there should be a class action over the terrible HK (Samsung) HUs in our cars. Actually, I'd say Subaru should be required to provide an all-new unit to all of us, but I doubt it would be any better, judging from the complaints about the Ascent.
  17. According to tirerack.com, the Continentals start out at 11/32 compared to the LS2s at 10/32, but I doubt that is enough to account for the discrepancy. The total diameter is the same, but the LS2s get 777 revs per mile compared to 773 on the continentals. Again, not enough to explain the difference. If anything, I'd expect the new tire to result in a slower speed than the worn one, assuming I am thinking about it correctly.
  18. I don't seen an option for satellite Apple Maps on CarPlay, but you can use Google Maps with CarPlay, and that does have a satellite view option. Of course, Google Maps isn't as integrated with CarPlay as Apple Maps is.
  19. I expect to keep mine until around 100k, when the CVT warranty expires, which seems to be the only significant reliability concern for this car. We'll probably replace my wife's Forester in a few years, assuming problems start to crop up. I can't say whether Subaru will be on the shopping list the next time we need a new car. I am not a far of what they've been doing content-wise or price-wise, and I expect electrification to be a significant part of our next vehicle purchase, and Subaru is way behind the curve on that from what I can tell.
  20. Interesting. Our '11 FXT, which also just went from Premier A/S to Ascend GT tires (and got an alignment as part of the process), definitely does not handle better at highway speeds than our '18 Legacy 2.5 Limited (which got an alignment 6 months ago, and is 18k miles in on OEM Goodyear Eagle LS2 tires). The Forester feels more susceptible to crosswinds, and just doesn't feel quite as planted on the road. Not that it is bad, but there is a noticeable difference. The Legacy is more isolated from tire noise and vibration, so there is more feel with the Forester, but it isn't all good feelings. I guess the best thing you can say is you definitely know where the edge of adhesion is on the Forester.
  21. I don't find the steering twitchy at all, just numb, like most new cars with electric power steering. Mine will stay straight with no inputs on a flat road, and I don't feel the need to keep a death grip on the wheel under most conditions to keep it pointed in the right direction. The steering needs some more weight, and I would actually prefer it was faster. If they could make it feel like a Honda Accord, that would be great.
  22. Nothing in the manual. Isn't the steering wheel on the wrong side for Australia?
  23. FWIW: I believe you experienced what you say. It just doesn't match with my experiences. I got 32.4 MPG (my calculation, not the trip computer which is a bit more optimistic) on my recent trip to GA and back. I certainly didn't drive 55 on the highways. I typically drive 5-10 MPH over the speed limit to keep up with the majority of traffic, using cruise control when possible. I feel lucky I haven't experienced the issues you and others have complained about with my Legacy [yet]. I will say the steering on the Legacy is pretty numb compared to a MK4 Jetta or a Scion xB, so maybe that lack of feedback is part of the problem?
