On my way home on the highway, my car suddenly started running rich. My af correction stayed around -15% keeping my afrs at 14.5, but as soon as I went into open loop and I lost my af correction, it would go pig rich rich immediately around 10-11. The car drove fine as long as the af correction kept up. I stayed out of open loop and got back into my town about 20 minutes later. By the time I got off the highway, my af correction would be at around -18% and bottoming out at -25% as I hit lights, until eventually a hill killed me since I couldn't stay out of open loop.
I rolled the car into a parking, and couldn't see anything upon examination. Car wouldn't start at this point, it would just turn over and act like there was way too much fuel being dumped in. I about gave up and was going to start walking home when I gave her one last try, and sure enough, it started up perfectly fine. During the quick 5 minute drive home, my af correction hovered at 0% and the car drove like nothing happened. But then I tried taking the car somewhere the next morning, and as the car was warming up about a block away, my af correction started decreasing down to 18%, which is when I turned around and took my other car.
I tried to start it just now, and it started but it sounds like I fouled a plug and it's running on three cylinders. A ton of smoke came out the exhaust from the fuel. I'll replace the plugs, but I don't know what to do about the rich condition. It seems very odd. Electronic related? MAF? Fuel pressure or an injector? I don't really understand how any of those would allow the car to start right back up, drive home, and then right back the next morning.
