  1. You should be able to contact the ESA, let them know the details of the project (in relation to electrical) and you are doing the work.  They should give you the steps to follow to have it inspected at proper intervals and once complete they give a final inspection and assuming you pass then it is certified.  Might not hurt to pick up a current version of Ontario electrical code, can usually get them at like home depot etc for like $20.  Or it should also be available online.

  2. The DRL runs at a lower wattage, therefore the HID lights flicker.  Disconnecting the DRL will give you full low beam = normal.

HIDs often come with both high and lows in a single projector.  I had to order a wire harness with my kit to be able to use the standard high beams - so I would have both the HID highs and the stock highs on at the same time.

Sounds like the kit in your car does not have that functionality.  I would presume that when you turn on the highs you get more light/different angle of light cast?

Konis and swift springs. Drop the car about 2 inches but ride better than coils. Maybe some RSR springs if not Swift. Epic, Eibach, etc are out of production.

This is what I have.  With the Konis set to near full soft, it is a reasonable ride, and still has plenty of performance ability for those spirited driving moments.  I found that putting on larger stabilizers made more of a difference on my LGT.

  4. I'd like to create a "would you rather" type power point package for my wife.  With the kids leaving the house in the next couple of years to pursue post-secondary education, we are done saving for them and will have much more disposable income.  I would like to pick up a "toy" car and I would like to present my good half with multiple options to see what she might also enjoy.

So, does anyone know a quick and easy way to create this sort of thing in power point (or some other easily accessible software package)?

I have found ways to make quizzes and multiple choice, but I'd like to present 2 options to start, then after selection it moves to another slide with the first selection and presents another option, after which a selection is made and moves to another slide with a new option and repeats until an end is reached.

  5. It's a 35W ballast.

I have a feeling we've gone down a rabbit hole in trying to diagnose.

Engine did not have to be running for the lights to turn on.  Problem was SOMETIMES only one would come on.  Restart engine, all good, both would turn on.  If I just turned key to ON, the lights would do the same thing.  Maybe battery is the problem, but I had the battery replaced (Interstate brand) during this issue (since it wouldn't even crank the engine) and no change.

The lights didn't start with this issue after installation, so it SEEMS like something changed along the way.  But maybe just not enough "electrical horsepower".

I liked the better light with the HIDs, but I'll just try the 65W Vosla bulbs I have and see how they do before trying these again.

  6. So, the stock headlights suck.  Fact.

I have purchased the Osram bulbs, but have not installed them  - was waiting until the stock went dead.  Put them back in a year ago, so shouldn't be long.

I did have the HID retrofit kit installed.  I experienced issues with them, mostly both lights would not come on at the same time when first turned on.  If I turned off the engine and started again, the lights would both then come on.  This became tiresome, especially if I was ever in a hurry.  I think this was a grounding issue, never had an issue with the stock lights, so circuitry seems okay.  I am considering putting the HID lights back in as the stock bulbs are just not enough.  Question is for those who have this kit, where did you run the ground wire?  I had found a threaded hole in the body/frame just below the headlight assembly on the driver side, but it was pretty rusted when I removed the kit last year.  The ground wire has a pretty decent length, so I imagine it could go in a number of places.

    TIA

  7. Not a totally on topic update, but I hit a mini version of the Maginot Line Sunday night.  I figured my front end was about to drop out, it was pretty nasty and accompanied by a large BANG sound.  Oddly enough, the car still rides smooth on nice pavement and the alignment is good.  Tires all holding air still, no rim bending visible.

The issue is that the Mariana Trench encounter made the display on my HU (Alpine single DIN, don't remember the model) go blank.  It is back lit, but nothing displayed on it.  After turning off the car and restarting, the display came back.  But now when I start the car, the display starts out okay, but after about 10 minutes the display goes out.  So, looks like I will be getting a new HU as well.  Looking at probably this one:  Sony XAV-AX5600 Digital multimedia receiver at Crutchfield Canada

FM Sensitivity is only 7 dBf - lower is better and 8-12 is considered excellent for reception, so should help my situation.
