6th Gen Legacy Wheel Thread
Saberplane replied to tigger73's topic in Sixth Generation Legacy (2015 -2019 )
Got the 18 in wheels which I love but they fitted me with 245/45R18 and even tho they said they checked for clearance and it seemed close but ok.. I am getting fender rub in the rear. Oddly more on the left than on the right. It can't be replicated by pushing on the car but when it happens it's very obvious and jarring. I wonder if body roll while driving higher speeds or driving at an angle is just enough to cause it to hit it when I hit a dip in the road. There is a line where you can see the fender mark just to the outside of the profile of the tire. I wonder if I should go back and request 235's or if it's something they could fix a different way? Wonder why others with the same tire size like Boxer.. Or even those with the 255 like Andrew are not having the rubbing issue tho? -

Thanks for the input. Going to a larger 18 in wheel too but the width increase I figured would help with the stability of the car as Bill G mentioned. I'm not sure I'm gonna go as far as to do the stabilizer mod so I figured if I have to get new tires that a tire width increase might be just enough for me to be happy enough with the stability of the car. I also hope the greater surface area leads to a tad more traction in snowy conditions. Would a slightly less wide tire but wider than stock make more sense? I. E. 235/55/18? If this logic makes no sense please tell me. Won't get it done for another few days or week so can change the tire size I go with still. -

Sorry to quote a way old post but I'm looking to go from stock to 18s as well and would also prefer a wider tire. Not knowing much about wheel and tire fitment... I would like to play it a bit safer than the somewhat just right fitment Andrew is describing. Is there a way to approach this look and approximate width of tire while giving it a bit more room? It's a family hauler so I often have the car loaded. Planning to use Goodyear Assurance Weatherready tires. Ty! -
2020 Subaru Legacy reviews are now live!
Saberplane replied to IcEWoLF's topic in Subaru News & Rumors
My 15 Legacy is the first car where I have found that to not always hold true. It hasn't been plagued by any of the recalls or other more serious issues that popped up in the 16 and above. *knocks on wood* my biggest issues have been the sticking fuel door that was replaced and wind noise that was resolved as well thru TSBs -
Sway Bar question - all 6th Gen Legacies?
Saberplane replied to johnm304's topic in Sixth Generation Legacy (2015 -2019 )
That's what I was afraid of. Need to put new tires on it soon so was debating whether I should still make that investment or not. Perhaps I should get the sway bar done tho bc Ive gotten very tired of this car getting air time and become floppy every time I hit a bump. Became very obvious after driving a Merc as a rental for a few weeks. -
Sway Bar question - all 6th Gen Legacies?

Hmm this thread makes me wonder. Was thinking about seeing if there is any benefit in trading my 15 for an 18 or 19.. In part for improved handling/stability but it doesn't sound like it ll be worth it for that? -
I definitely would agree with that train of thought but I bought the first of the sixth gen obviously and ironically it seems that aside from some minor issues like wind noise bc of seals needing replacements under a tsb or the fuel door sticking issue - my problems seem minimal at worst compared to some of the recall issues the 16 and above had to deal with. *knocks on wood*

Tire recommendations coming from stock?
Saberplane replied to Saberplane's topic in Sixth Generation Legacy (2015 -2019 )
Wow those tires sound very impressive and almost too good to be true. They sound even better than the Michelins I mentioned. Tires sound very good for as far as handling etc goes based on the many reviews but I am a bit concerned about the reports of rapid wear of the tires - especially when putting it on a AWD car. I'm too lazy/cheap to switch tires mid year unfortunately. Those actually sound pretty good but I'm hesitant to go with an unknown make. Or maybe I just don't know enough about the company. Ty all for your feedback so far! -
Hi folks - need to replace the tires on my 15 Legacy and it came from the factory with Continental ProContacts I have not liked since day 1. I always felt like Bambi on ice with em when the road was a bit slippery - despite the AWD of course. So, perhaps I need something with a more aggressive thread but it would obviously /likely increase road noise. Does anyone have any recommendations for new tires? Ty! Edit: for what it's worth it seems some folks on outback forums are suggesting the Michelin Premier A/S but holy hell they re kinda pricey.

Arrrgh just now noticed my dealer didn't do the second part of the update. I noticed at first bc I checked my lifetime mpg etc was all zero or blank despite driving for about a week since the update. I then tried to load vehicle customization settings and as others have reported when the second part doesn't take.. It just kicks me back to the main screen. Checked db version and yep.. That part is still 10 versions behind. I even emailed them instructions and a printout.. Waited for an hour and a half too for that despite an appointment. Wtf Subaru, do your techs even get training? At this point I may as well do it myself. (Also, why does it feel like I have to pull a leg requesting this.. I had to make something up about my Bluetooth not working to give them a reason..)

Thanks for the tip Andrew. Hear ya on the gf wife control thing. I'd do the same in your position ha! I may just start off with the black dip and see how that looks first.. Seems like the graphite is something that needs to be applied to black plasti dip anyway so it would just be an extra step if I don't like the plain black. -

Looking very nice Andrew! Sadly I don't think I can convince my wife to spend cash on swapping the wheels/tires so I'll drool over yours and try the plasti dip approach in black or gun metal (anyone used that "color"?) on the stock wheels for myself.
