  1. To call me foolish is a real smart thing to do. I happen to work in the automotive aftermarket industry, and deal with DD on a wholesale level. I know them very well.

The fact is that my comment was a joke. So calm down. I have had their parts on cars before as well as on SEMA builds that have won design awards. The facts are that as of late (past year or so) there has been a higher frequency of part failures or malfunctions. That is a pretty easy thing to find on any forum.

Review what you like, what you say about the product is your right to free speech. What I said was not slanderous or lecherous so take a chill pill.

    Rant over.

I think it's foolish to think that you were being called foolish, he clearly stated "it would be foolish to question their products" not "hey your foolish dude". None of us have sema cars or deal with them on a wholesale level, but from what I've seen, everyone on THIS forum has nothing but positive things to say about DD, including me so I'm pretty sure your the only one laughing at your "joke"

  2. I need some help, in the midst of trying get my new wheels/tires, I am trying to get 19x8.5 rims and 245/40R19 tires. The mechanics say I shouldn't do this because it will hurt the transmission. I know there are a number of people out there with the plus size wheels. Can anyone give factual information on this? What do they mean it will hurt the transmission? The rims I'm looking at are the TSW Nurburgring, they are 21lbs each (~5lbs lighter than stock) I'd think this would put less stress on the transmission since they are lighter.. but this isn't my area of expertise.

I've had my rims on for about a year now and had different rims before that for like 6 months, no trans problems here. Maybe some cheap extremely heavy 20's could do that??? I don't know never heard of rims affecting transmission

  3. Yea I was kinda bummed that there were no coilovers available to us in the states but my wallet will get hit harddd. Glad I dont have to purchase springs

Also I just checked out Flatout Suspensions Instagram account and my god does the 2015 Outback look sexy lowered with the coilovers...

Drooling over that outback, if anyone wants to buy these now you can get 15% off for Black Friday which equals about $280 off. Wish I had that money now :spin::spin::spin:

  4. Remember by just getting it tuned and no supercharger it will take him time to develop it and lots of time. I'm looking at the supercharger as well and would like to do it this fall/winter if I can get the OK for funds. I have been talking to Matt about it and because he is a supplier he can get a good deal on the premium one. He said the 0-60 time would be in the mid to high 4's... That's half of what my car does now! That would be a real head turner..

Wow that would be crazy, has he said anything about our cvt's though because that is my only concern, if it can handle that much extra power

  5. He would do a remote tune on it. I'm pretty sure Matt has remote tuned the FB20 + supercharger as there's a few of these running around in some stealthy Impreza/XV's ;)

Though if I were you I'd get the car tuned first (without supercharger) and see how this feels.

Now that I'm running the latest tune I'm pretty happy with how the car drives. It's a big improvement over stock.

However I will say this. In Oz we get the JDM spec which comes with S/I drive in the 2.5. This does mean I have 2 selectable driving modes which I think makes a difference for general pick-up and responsive driving. Nobody I know of can tune the CVT, however with S/I drive at least I have a more sporty auto selection (other than driving in manual mode). If I'm going for a spirited drive through the hills I will run in manual mode but for "normal" day to day driving I will use "S" mode. The only time I slip it across to "I" is on the highway cruising to drop the RPM lower.

Yea I plan on getting it tuned sometime before the end of the year, a couple other little things then next year is when I will really debate on pulling the trigger on the supercharger. If only getting it tuned makes that much of a difference like you have experienced then maybe that'll be good enough but we'll see, knowing that he can remotely tune it if I install the supercharger makes me want it that much more :spin::spin::spin:

  6. Had a retune on the weekend. Matt (throttlehappy) had found some more maps to fix when he was doing some pre-work for tuning the FB25 for raptor superchargers.... and before you ask no it's not for me ;)

Anyway low down torque has improved and it really pulls well from the line. Not sure what the nanny limiters were but it certainly has freed up a lot more. Be interesting to find out what the 0-100 is now. Should be consistently in the 7's I'm guessing.

Hey tigger, so if I got the supercharger and installed it myself, would he be able to remotely tune that or would I have to get on a dyno at a shop?

  7. Thanks for the help guys! I'm debating on a set of 20 x 8.5 Niche Concourses that are for sale on Craigslist right now. Your 19's look plenty big though, thinking the 20's may be too much with that low of an offset. Did you roll your fenders at all Kayslay?

Yea I slightly rolled my rear fenders just enough so the lip wouldn't rub the tires

  8. http://m.autotrader.ca/results?ms=pv&make=Subaru&mdl=Legacy&loc=M9C5J1&prx=-1&yRng=2015%2C2016&trans=Manual&hprc=True&wcp=True&inMarket=homeSearch&u=1 There's a few for sale in Canada. I'm sharing the link because I've never seen a picture of a 6 gen legacy with a manual. If you haven't either, here you go.

I never actually saw what it looks like either, but if you go on parts.subaru.com you can look everything up to see what parts will be needed (obviously only for part #'s though unless you want to pay top dollar) we would somehow have to find used parts for cheaper

  9. Oh I get it. You're essentially buying a car that on paper matches their rules, but in practice would break those rules if you were to install the supercharger kit. In essence, it doesn't matter because you get to fly under the radar, that is lie to them

So mpg WOULD matter even in your situation.

So a modified 2.5i that no longer meets the manufacturer MPG would have to be disclosed and subject to approval.

You're in fairly uncharted territory as far as Subaru's 2nd gen CVTs behing supercharged engines goes, but I offered up that link because it has a wealth of data. If you decided none of it is relevant, okay.

That said, we already have a lot of data gathered which is still solid point forward, although unrelated to specifically the 6th gen. For example, we know what mpg would look like, and we know what the CVT is designed like and what type of holding capacity it could have. If you look at other manufacturer's vehicles with similar if not identical designs, you can already connect some dots. For example the Nissan community has had coupe owners that supercharged/turbocharged some Coupe Altimas. This resulted in them boiling the CVT fluid and killing transmissions at a non-trivial rate. This has resulted in power having to be pulled back, which basically defeats the purpose.

You can reach out to the communities should you decide this information is relevant. I used to be quite involved with Nissanclub.com, where I read some of these stories. There's more at Nico Club and the like.

If you're only interested in data strictly on the CVT 2nd gen and 6th gen 2.5i, you're on your own.

If you want to read up on some tech articles about Subaru's CVT unit, here's some sources you may like

    http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php?t=230379

TL-DR: it is being described as being beefy enough to stuff into a Sherman tank; insane amounts of clamping power for the pulleys that are holding the drive chain connected. Does this mean it's enough to hold the power that the engine would subject it to? Don't know.

I guess this is why you have over 10,000 posts. Thanks for the link to that thread though because I like to read anything Subaru CVT related even if it's not the same gen as ours it's always good to know but I'm the one who wants the SC kit, tigger already ruled it out so all the explaining about gas mileage is irrelevant, I could care less about that. Would you let someone talk you out of doing something to your car if you knew it was possible? Of coarse there will be roadblocks, I never said this would be some easy peasy install and when it comes to cars things break with no modifications. So if I totally screw the CVT up, that'll be my excuse to throw a 6MT in it

  10. A couple points. Limited for limited, 2.5 vs 3.6 is just about $3K USD difference between the cars. A 2.5i is not going to get away with just 3 grand to have a supercharger kit profesionally installed and pro-tuned.

Fuel economy is out of the discussion altogether at that point primarily because the 2.5i is going to be required to run premium, whereas the 3.6R will run on regular, and fuel consumption is pretty much expected to go up a notch.

Cars are not an investment, they are a liability. An aftermarket supercharged 2.5i is going to drop its resale appeal like a rock; it will essentially place you in the market only for enthusiasts, and you'll never see dollar for dollar no matter what. From a resale perspective, a modded car is a bad deal.

Then the question is how the CVT holds up to the extra power. I am all for someone else finding out what the limit is :)

What the hell are we talking about fuel economy, resale value and investment for? I'm pretty sure the only concern I had in the original question was the CVT. Nothing that you are saying besides how the CVT will hold up to the extra power which was stated already. I will be the one to test it because I am for sure getting this kit when it's available for US customers and we will see...

  11. I definitely understand both sides but I really hate the annoying answer which is to save up and get, or should've got a different car.... Ummm no, this is the car I have and will be keeping for long time so what I really need right now is enablers, not someone to bring my hopes and dreams down. Let's all get superchargers!!! Seriously though tigger let me know what Matt says when you see him, he probably knows more about our cars then anyone else right now so his word will definitely be the most helpful
  12. So tigger, I recently contacted raptor superchargers about their XV Crosstrek supercharger kits they have to see its compatibility with our cars and they told me the two kits they have adapt to all FB20/25 applications. So yea that's my next upgrade I'm saving for lol, any thoughts? pros/cons? I know the cvt is definitely cause for concern like you said before but if XV can take it, I'm sure ours should be fine. Was thinking if I did this I would like to see if the morimoto cvt oil cooler for the wrx is also compatible
