  1. How come the base model does not have the same specs as the others?

base gets you something big enough to haul 7 or 8,

...MADE only for light trailers like a jet ski

...and in reality probably none at all. low price point though to compete with explorers and the like, ...so the base model seems to have been cheapened up.

(kind of like a 2000 legacy brighton wagon).

you got to pony up $3000 more for the premium to with a real trailer package, ...and finally after 50 years. subaru makes something that can do the job of pulling a 5000lb trailer. (safely....in colorado).

  2. new stuff on the SOA official Ascent pages,

like finally public listing the tongue weight, on the premium/limited/ touring, as 500lbs

    https://www.subaru.com/ascent

(below copied from the accessories lifestyle tab).

"Subaru hitches are engineered and crash tested to meet the same rigorous safety standards as the rest of the Ascent.

Rated at 500 lbs. tongue weight, 5,000 lbs. maximum towing capacity,

with base models rated at 200 lbs. tongue weight and 2,000 lbs. maximum towing capacity.

Trailer Hitch requires the hitch and harness for proper operation and safety compliance.

    Hitch ball not included.

Trailer brakes may be required by your state for heavier loads. Consult your owner's manual for more information."

  3. Can anyone confirm the Tribeca wheels were 5x114.3 18"x8J?

I had expected at least an 8" rim on the Ascent, but from the MFR's label, it appears that the 20" wheels are 20x7.5J also in 5x114.3 I'd presume since the WRX and Legacy chassis are all now that PCD. Could just be pre-production sizing, but could also be the production size as well.

MFR's label indicates GVWR = 6,000 lbs so 1,700 of occupant and internal cargo. (6,000 GVWR - 4,300 vehicle weight). So with a tow weight of 5,000 lbs, you're looking at 11,000 lbs GCVWR.

  4. for now the Ascent is a USA/ Canada thing only. to be made in Lafayette Indiana

    _______.

here is a wikipedia page discussing ..the #s that appear on pumps worldwide. (don't know how great the data is, but nice some people worked so hard on it....vs. the subaru pages all screwed up with each of the world's domestic markets piled together like a large shit sandwich  )

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Octane_rating

    in the US:

91 is typically the high # on the pump at high altitude places like Denver Colorado, and SanteFe, New Mexico. and it acts like 93 in lower places.

    ___

I have been in places in europe where there is only one gas (petrol) choice, and its formulated like US 91.....so I guess if you want more zip then that a jug of octane booster gets dropped in with a fill up.

  5. Well I was going liven up the thread with pictures but attaching pictures to this site is a nightmare.

My previous post has all my attachments removed. All the attachments I've been trying to upload are under the size and dimension requirements. Keep getting invalid attachment. For some reason make the the attachment smaller works sometimes. Which doesn't make sense.

And then I get invalid token. Been trying all these different ways to try to get them on this site. I had hope to post some info and guides and such but unless there is a better way I'll have to host the pictures elsewhere which I rather not do.

    .....I'm very much computer literate...

try putting them to imgur etc. (anywhere but photobucket, now worthless...photo$ucket)

    and link them back here.

I would like to see what you did with shielding the boots from the cats. :)

  6. 87 US AKI octane confirmed on the subaru of japan site (sorry its going open a PDF,...lots of stuff in the flyer though).

maybe it will automatically reflash for more hp/torque if you put higher octane in.

    https://www.subaru.co.jp/press/file/...17_1129_02.pdf

73 liters ~ 19.28 gallons for the fuel tank capacity. (subaru did not give a conversion in the data below)

    quoted text centered:

*2: Continuously variable transmission (CVT) with fully automatic electronic control

  7. Looks like the 2018 Toyota Highlander has 295HP on regular gas. Come on Subaru, you could do better

maybe the Ascent will reflash itself when you pump 91-93 US octane in it.

...either that or they will sell you a racing keyless fob as a option when you pump the high octane in.

I remember when it was "hard" to find enough road make a 80s subaru build speed over 80mph. (I can say I have had a unmodified Justy over 90mph).

    ________

that said, maybe subaru should get back into the endurance record things like they use to do with the early EJ22T and the EG33.

whipping them around a track to 62,5000 miles = 100,000kms in the shortest # of days. such might make the FA24T prove its worth.

  8. So far, there are 34 +/- million cars being recalled due to using the Takata airbag.

It's not like cars are getting repaired anytime soon.

I say make your passengers wear a spike on their chest so that the airbag won't hurt them if deployed.

subaru people really care about safety. these were seen out shopping,...and when questioned were worried about shrapnel getting them in the chest or face. ....or arms, legs, ....groin.
